    BlueWaterSailor: trading journey and journal

I'm not in the least perturbed - nor even sure what made you think that. I was simply unclear on what you meant by "the delete button", so I put a bit of creative interpretation on it for fun. I'm also a little puzzled by your read on my intent here. "Exhibitionism"? That's... wild. As well as...

I'm all about not hiding my weaknesses - that makes the little bastards stronger - but I don't know where the delete button for them is. If you've discovered something new and exciting, please feel free to share. :)

I know. It's a pittance. But if I can't average that tiny amount within a year, then I get to [gulp] give up trading full time... ...I've committed to it. (Damn, I hated even writing that.)

$139.99 TLT 191115P137 -$0.74 $31.00 Out with 29.4%. Got tangled up in my own fingers when trying to set up a conditional close order and bot it back at market. Duh. $38.90 TWTR 191115P36.5 / P38.5 / C38.5 / C40.5 $1.70 Iron Fly for earnings. EDIT: damn, wrong expiration! Wanted a 2-day, routed...

Funny you should mention that. I'm the fire control chief on that sub. :) (Not in the credits, just an extra. But being a movie Russian was a hell of a lot of fun - as was working with Sean Connery. I'll tell you about it some time.)

ON my friend... that's funnier than hell. I guess it's like that classic illustration from history classes - to most people, Cleopatra and T. Rex are both "far back in history" - but there's a bit of difference between 65BC and 65MYA. There's about the same tiny difference between destriero's...

$115.13 UPS 191220P110 $2.10 $116.17 UPS 191220P110 $1.80 $30.00 Hm. I was going to hold this through earnings - the expected move was only a couple of bucks, which is what it turned out to be - but almost 15% after a 3-hour hold on a 60-day expiration? Yeah, I'll take that any time. Other...

The Reddit geek who raked in $100,000 with 2 trades is 'taking a small break'

@Turveyd, you might want to check your math. Rough cross-check: even if it was $1k per chance, that would give him 108 chances.

    ROKU trade ideas?

That is seriously nifty. I just did a bunch of, um, ferreting in the analyzer, and - lo and behold - if the relative IVs work out and the price adds up... I have a feeling that these are NOT the easiest critters in the world to find, even when the IV is high - underlyings with enough premium...

That's what I meant by "doubt ... much higher"; from 76 to 90 isn't a huge jump. I get that the effect of IVR on premium is non-linear, but this isn't like the 20 to 100 range in some of the underlyings I use - and I got in when it was already pretty high. I'm still trying to get a feel for a...

    ROKU trade ideas?

Notice that I'm not doing it. :) The OP asked for how to play these earnings, and my general advice came down to "DON'T!" As to buying a straddle - it's better than selling, say, an IC. In much the same way that getting run over by a Cat D11 is better than dying of necrotizing fasciitis...

    ROKU trade ideas?

A bit more seriously: ROKU is crazy volatile. Based on what it's been doing for the past month, I'd look at buying a straddle. I'm one of those people who jumps out of perfectly good airplanes for fun, but those 5SD+ moves are nuts.

For extra points, use the above plus your broker's API to send "buy", "sell", and "the hell with it, just throw my money down the toilet" [1] signals to your platform. [1] It's an undocumented feature, but available on every platform in existence.

Just to recap that last position in ROKU again from a different perspective: what I started with, in this phase of it, was a short call and a possible very ugly outcome if it went to the moon. What I've ended up with is a "broken-wing iron condor": The resulting call spread, due to the high...

My pleasure, and I'm glad you find value in it! To me, the critical part of learning is not the accumulation of facts; those are just a jumbled pile of stuff in your brain until you manage to impose structure on it. The "a-ha!" moment comes from the new perspective, the organizing principle...

Las Vegas Traders Expo Nov 7-9, 2019

Hey, "to see it is to love it". I played about five seconds of their garbage fine educational material and heard that, so I'm checking out airfares to Vegas RIGHT NOW! Oh, wait - it's going to conflict with picking fuzz from my bellybutton, so I can't go. What a shame...
