    Yield with no risk?

Don't have the specifics handy, but I believe the conversion ratio is variable based on CVC price tiers. So it may not be as simple as just buying XCT and shorting CVC. Besides, as someone already noted. If it was really a good deal, the arbs would have already jumped all over it and eaten...

    QCharts... It delivered the goods!!!

No problem connecting to Boston servers from here. Been on and off them for the last several hours. If you're unable to connect to Boston, the problem is peculiar to your config/connection. Try pinging the Boston servers and make sure you can at least see them over your connection.

leen - sorry, you're right. I mistakenly included the extra divide by N (shouldn't be in the formula).

Quicken Quotes Live.. last few jabs..

Riesgo - Back at ya - presumably you've based your conclusion on hard data?? Thought not. Your personal perception of loads of loyal customers and your personal opinion that there was "obviously a more creative solution" is way short of the criteria you wanted to apply to the alternate...

Quicken Quotes Live.. last few jabs..

"Many of us would be willing to pay a bit more to keep QQL running. " "A bit" might not have been enough. There's no way to know for sure since they don't report segreated P&L, but even doubling their fees might not have been enough for them. Pure speculation, but here's a possible...

    Another Waxie Classic

Footnote to page 149: "Unless Waxie can make a bunch of bucks quickly by suckering his followers into pumping up the price of a BB stock that he's bought ahead of them - then BB's are great". :)

Quicken Quotes Live.. last few jabs..

Maybe they simply weren't actually making a profit on QQL (which might account for why they didn't try to sell it) or maybe they weren't getting as high a return on their investment as they'd anticipated. A presumed "lots of users" doesn't necessarily translate into "lots of bucks" - it costs...

    Wireless Internet

Wireless internet is still in its infancy and barely faster than pager speed. It'll probably take G3 technology to make it reasonable (and that's probably a long way off given the softness in telecom). Temporary middle ground is to hook your cellphone into a Pocket PC or notebook - you can...

    Another Waxie Classic

Sounds like Waxie at his best - he's a gem: "I will front run no stock before it's time" So basically he's saying, "...I will NOT be accused of front running you fools, I WILL do it of course - I just don't like being accused of it..." It's yet another in a series of lame excuses why...

    Volume adjusted mov. av. formula

Pretty simple - Just add up each bar's closing price times its volume in the MA's length and divide the total by the total volume in the MA's length and then divide that by the # of bars in the MA's length Something like this (don't use/like EasyLanguage - but you should be able to adapt...

    Conversions / Bullets

If IB supports the minimum hedged position margin rules, you could get up to 10:1 margin on the position which would sharply reduce the impact on overall available marginable equity. For instance, if stock was trading at 50 and you bought the equity and you sold the 50 stike calls @ 3 and...

    Omnitrade 2002 Realtime edition

Used to use OT end of day and RT, the RT version was a pig (maybe they've finally fixed that) but ultimately found that neither it nor even the end of day version of any real use. Not worth the price to use just as a charting tool IMO.

    Waxie

Re: front running - wouldn't surprise me either. I trialed the service some time ago and on every call he seemed to have been in and out before the call was sent to everyone. When I asked about it I got some lame response about how he's trading and so his primary mission is to get in and...

    Jurik Indicators

DT-waw - the point was simply that it's a common axiom in technical analysis that a lot of what works does so because enough people are looking at the same thing and help to create a self-fulfilling prophecy. The reason stocks typically meet with support or resistance at their 10, 20, 50...

    Jurik Indicators

Less lag or not, it's important to remember that indicators and studies only really work effectively if they're what the majority are looking at. For instance, looking at a 72 day moving average might be interesting, but it's probably of little value in making decisions because no one else is...

    Conflicting Put/Call ratios?

Niterider - total P/C includes Index only options and Equity only options. It's the larger volume equity only put/call ratio that swings the total P/C. Index only P/C tends to be over 1 while equity only P/C tends to be less than 1.

covered combination question for option pros

The term "covered combination" is a misnomer. It's a covered call position with a naked put. Calling a "covered" combo suggets that there's no risk on the short option (true for the short call but not true for the short put). The obvious risk is if ORCL Worldcoms on you and tanks to 2 for...
