    IQFeed Level 2 problems

If you want reliability, I would limit interaction as much as possible with anything dealing with ARCA.

    Problems with IB ????

Next time you have this problem, exclude ARCA from your SMART routing as FX-Trader said before (see TWS Configure / Misc.). In fact, since ARCA routinely spews erroneous quotes, I would suggest disabling ARCA from SMART as a default setting. And if you are automating your trading and have to...

Get broke in a special way.

Yes, the example I gave was far-fetched. However, I'm sure the IRS has caught people on the wash sale rule before. And I'm sure that people, who didn't know any better, were put into financial difficulty because their capital losses were delayed into the next tax year (by the wash sale law).

Get broke in a special way.

I interpreted the situation as the following: the dude had losses of 0.5M and gains of 1M. Suppose the 0.5M in losses could not be taken because of the wash sale rule and had to be transferred into the dude's next tax year. Now his income to the IRS in this tax year is 1M so he has to pay like...

How do you determine the "strongest of the strong" and the "weakest of the weak"? Relative-strength? 1-day relative strength? 1-week relative strength?

Entering or exiting a position while holding large sizes

InteractiveBrokers supports "Iceberg" orders if you use its SMART routing. So you can specify to buy 5,000 shares but only have it display up to say 500 shares at a time (these share amounts are configurable). You lose control over where these orders get routed, but it seems like it would...

    Mouse - mind connection

Are you trading ES/NQ? Maybe trade SPY and QQQ in 100 shares (or less) til you feel comfortable letting your winners run. Also, you can make your trading environment more conducive to letting winners run. For example, as soon as you enter a trade, put in your stop and target and turn your...

    Higher market and lower volume

I hear that a rising market on lower and lower volume is a sign the rally will not continue longer. Who is right? Can you twist the meaning of volume to support both bullish and bearish cases? If so, what is the importance of volume?

    IB click on bid

It splits it as 2 orders. Could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the commission is based on a 1000 share order.

What is going on with IB?

Could be wrong, but I thought the reason was that some ECNs charge cancel fees. IB's model is geared towards its SMART routing where it can control the cost of displaying your order into the marketplace. If you directly control where your order gets routed, then their model assumptions are no...

Did you mean for this to be in the Babak's Journal thread? He said it would be at least 1 month before he would claim defeat or victory. Notice how he didn't claim victory after the market dropped initially. You should give him the courtesy of not declaring his defeat til the deadline is up...

    Babak's Journal

Babak, Do you wait for price confirmation before entering your position (for example, a break of the upward sloping trend line on the S&P 500 index)? Or do you start building a position before any break happens? What happens if the price continues to move against you? Is there a stop...

    Firms Offering Per Share Commissions?

Sorry, this is a little off topic. I don't know much about bullets - but I assume they must be constructed somehow by the brokerage which requires a certain amount of time. So if I wanted to use a bullet for a particular stock, how fast would I be able to access it at choicetrade? Is there a...
