    Estimated tax payment rule

Ah ok. So a 2nd business besides trading so that you can have earned income and a retirement account. Sounds good. Now if only I could find a side business.

    Estimated tax payment rule

I always thought that trading income was not considered "earned income" and therefore you cannot contribute to a retirement account. On the other hand, you do not have to pay social security or medicare taxes.

    Estimated tax payment rule

If you are going to make less than last year, then just underpay your estimated taxes per quarter slightly. No sense in letting the government earn interest on your money throughout the year. If you are going to make more than last year, then just pay your estimated taxes as if you were...

    "smart routing".... IB vs. CYBERTRADER

CyberTrader passes on SEC fees. IB does not. Just another thing to consider (especially since SEC fees were just raised). If someone has changed from IB to Cybertrader, how much do you save in commissions now?

Yahoo does not provide this as far as I know.

Ensign why do some pro's like it?

How many days back does the historical intraday data go?

who offers a really good data api?

RealTick might be an option. However, when I pull up Time&Sales charts or Bid&Ask charts, it only gives me about 4 hours of historical data. It has several days of historical data for intraday bar charts. I wasn't sure what you meant by 1), so I'm not sure RealTick qualifies.

    Schedule D problem in TurboTAX

Use 7 digits and make the calculation come out right for TurboTax then handwrite the rest of the digits in when you print it out. Excludes you from e-filing though. TurboTax probably wants you to get a more expensive version to do what you want to do within the program because they blow...

    Order busting

Man, my broker rarely ever asks me for input at all, even if I have legitimate reasons why a trade should stand. I usually just get a terse "busted!" phone call or e-mail and that's that. Then it's off to the punching bag.

    Order busting

You are saying ignorance on the part of the persons who made the decision at the ECN? I can buy that. I would claim that in many cases there is fraud by the counterparty of the busted trade. They knew there was news and their original orders were not erroneous at all. They try to use the...

    Order busting

You would hope that it would be this simple. However, it all comes down to the persons at the ECN who make the final decision. You would think that "clearly erroneous" would be easy to judge, but apparently it is not.

    Order busting

ARCA has the best rules of any ECN in terms of busts. It is usually on INET where the shenanigans happen because the busting percentage is the smallest (3% for stocks >= $10). 3% sounds like it should be plenty but when there is news in the aftermarket, 3% isn't anything. I doubt people...

    Order busting

My broker called the exchange it was trading on. I know the rules for busting and my order was well into bustable territory. The rules for busts on ECNs are here: ARCA http://www.tradearca.com/exchange/pdfs/ErroneousExecutionPolicy.pdf BRUT...

    Order busting

One day, some guy makes a mistake and enters an aftermarket order $10 higher than the real price on a $30 stock. I short it. Gets busted within 15 minutes. No big deal, I expected it. On the same day, I erroneously entered an aftermarket order approximately $10 higher than the real price on...

    Health Insurance

The last time I talked to Blue Cross/Blue Shield about HSAs (half a year ago), no one knew what the hell I was talking about. Has this changed?

    The Surf Report

The thing is, someone could come up with a believable story about how the TradeSports contracts were being fudged the other way as well. If it doesn't take much to move them, why not have the Republican party support the contracts before election day? Seems like Don Luskin is too sure of...

    homegrown trading software

I thought Townsend Analytics (i.e., RealTick) offered something like this called Tuber. It might be discontinued but I still see it as one of the API options they have listed on their API website. You might give them a call and inquire about it.

    homegrown trading software

If you want speed, do C++. If you want to get stuff done quickly and don't mind that it might not execute the fastest, try perl or ruby. Ruby is more pleasing to the senses than perl (especially syntax). And if you code in an object oriented fashion, ruby is for you.
