XIV margin call at Questrade.......any recourse?

Because like most people, Questrade had no idea XIV was entering a termination event. It is not their responsibility to liquidate.

Can UVXY/TVIX "malfunction" like XIV and SVXY?

Cramer had no idea what was going on during the afterhours market with XIV so for him to be preaching after the fact is as usual ripe with irony. Maybe he should have been warning people about this product before the termination event. No value add at all.

Can UVXY/TVIX "malfunction" like XIV and SVXY?

Seems like a decent way to bet on a rising VIX via ETFs is to short products like XIV and SVXY and maybe you'll get a termination event.

How can you not trace a 900 point Flash Crash//Monday 3 PM

What about generating unsustainable buy orders to artificially inflate prices? Just checking.

UK trader arrested for May 2010 U.S. Stock market flash crash

Final thought on this topic. Spoofing is currently illegal but should be made legal as there is nothing inherently wrong with spoofing. It is an alternate technique that would bring balance to the market as compared to what it is now: HFTs front running orders by a penny or sub-penny.

UK trader arrested for May 2010 U.S. Stock market flash crash

Certainly possible, but more likely the authorities are trying to overstep rational boundaries given past behavior.

UK trader arrested for May 2010 U.S. Stock market flash crash

All your posts seem to be advocating that spoofing is bad when in fact it is just another tool. An especially useful tool against algo-bots. If you want me to get vulgar, I can.

Do I pay taxes on earnings for the year even if total account is a loss?

My brain is telling me that if this is just FX trading, these could possibly be classified as ordinary income and can be reported on Form A, Line 21. In that case (and assuming these were closed out currency trades), you needed to report your loss in the year you had it. You might need to amend...

UK trader arrested for May 2010 U.S. Stock market flash crash

Every order placed in the market has a chance of being filled, even if the originator does not want it filled. That is the problem with your and the SEC's argument/law.

UK trader arrested for May 2010 U.S. Stock market flash crash

Since it doesn't effect you, then maybe you don't know how effective spoofing can be against the bots. It is an equalizer for human discretionary traders (if it were legal).

UK trader arrested for May 2010 U.S. Stock market flash crash

Maybe they should put the person who invented the operating system that Mr Thakkar used to program his trading platform. If you are going to irrationally go after him, why stop there?

UK trader arrested for May 2010 U.S. Stock market flash crash

Have you tried to trade against algos? Spoofing is the best way to profit from them considering most of them are just really really fast front-runners. It amazes me that any discretionary trader would actually be in favor of banning spoofing. It would be an effective tool to use against bots (if...

TD Ameritrade customers "can now trade the stock market 24 hours a day"

Which electronic communication networks are open between 8pm and 4am? None that I know of. Does TD Ameritrade have their own ECN? Liquidity will be horrible.

Warning signs before MF Global went under

This. Or check its bonds or other market traded securities to see how they are doing (CDS maybe?). Here was MF Global's chart: I don't know if you could get your money out in time during the last plunge, but certainly you could have reduced some exposure to it as the price continued to fall...

SIPC coverage for Interactive Brokers UK accounts

Again, you are calling me out on details that don't make a difference to my argument. The fact is, you look at that Bear Stearns chart and the market is clearly telling you that something is wrong and that you should consider cutting exposure to that institution. The nitpicking about the details...

SIPC coverage for Interactive Brokers UK accounts

You must be looking at a different chart than I am. You also appear to never be able to concede on any valid points made by others when you feel you have an axe to grind. You are also vulgar. It is what it is. If you ignore the stock price of a financial institution that you have money with...

SIPC coverage for Interactive Brokers UK accounts

You are caught up on the specific prices I mention instead of realizing the truth behind what I am saying. Look at this chart of Bear Sterns: You are telling me if you had an account at Bear Sterns that you wouldn't be getting nervous when it gets cut in half from say $90 to $45 in a handful...

SIPC coverage for Interactive Brokers UK accounts

Agreed, but the price was a decent indicator that you should be pulling your money from MF Global. I am not sure when MF Global stopped allowing withdrawals, but if I had money there I would have been pulling when the stock went below $5.

The market always knows before the news becomes public. Obviously a 50% drop in a week means something is up. My "$1 price" comment was an exaggeration.
