You're right, I don't know whether it is correlation of causation. You say it's 81% correlated, so I presume that is the answer, but causation seems like a plausible answer too since dropping prices cause volatility to spike because the trading range increases (like inside in a Bollinger band)...

You've figured out the behavior of the stock. Unless the behavior changes, don't bother with it. If it broke out to the upside, then...maybe...chase it. But the high volume at the price spike already tells you that there is resistance to it breaking out again. Find a stock with upward...

Chickened out and sold SDS early at $20.40. It was up almost 1%, but I bought it so high yesterday I felt some relief...got out about even. Edit: My bad...it was up only about 0.83%
