Not who would you LIKE to win the election. But who do you actually think will win? SM

Why is This Different from Japan's "Lost Decade"

Yes. In most areas of the U.S., we didn't see valuations in the tens of times. Heck, not even 2X depending on what time scale....like maybe if you used a 5 year time scale or something. Their price rose in part because they are an island and have no room to expand. We can keep building in...

    Would this work?

Wow, was that a troll? The government takes the house (an asset) and overpays for it (giving a bigger asset). So the banks now have more assets, and in the form of cash, which they need to show solvency. For this priviledge, the banks take on the liability of paying back the loan. If it...

The Bailout and what I'm not clear on

Should have included this option too: (E.) The Last National Bank sells its loans to another company, "Bear Sachs" and after Bear Sachs overpays for the bundled loans, they realize they overpaid and have a big debit on their books. I'm confident that "E." is a target of the bailout, but...

The Bailout and what I'm not clear on

OK, I try to be informed and maybe I just missed it in the news, but here's what I'm wondering. Can someone put this in simple terms? Who will be helped by the bailout? (A.) A bank had to foreclose on Mr. Jones and now owns his house which is sitting empty. (B.) The bank ("Last...

government bailout of FNM and FRE

I've been wondering if they will use their control of the pursestrings to offer bailouts to individual homeowners. You know, like offer sweetheart deals to folks trapped in ARMs that want to refinance into 30 year fixed or make it super easy for people who are behind on their payments to put...

    Sick Children

Yes. Your kid must not go to preschool. Then you'll love the kindergarten stage. Kids drag all kinds of sickness home when they get around other kids day in and day out. Just part of the parental duty dealing with it. Better that they build up immunity now while they are young and healthy...

Please tell me your thoughts on this economic cartoon

Clinton had a Republican Congress. They couldn't agree on how to spend money, so not much was spent. Anytime you get a congress and a president of the same party, they'll write checks fast...but just for different purposes. Democrat...Republicans...all politicians who spend our money. Many...

Planning to buy a home soon

I think making the decision based on interest rates was wise. Please try to follow up on this thread in a year or so. It will be interesting to follow. SM

Planning to buy a home soon

I agree that prices go lower as rates go higher (and vice versa) over the long term, but that can take a couple years to play out for dramatic changes. For example, when rates were cut in 2001, it took a while for housing prices to rise. Also, from what I've seen, its my opinion that this...

Planning to buy a home soon

The price of the house is only half of the equation. The other half is interest rates. It will do you no good to wait hoping that prices drop more if interest rates spike. Some of the projections that these fellas are giving you may be right, but you should take those anticipated price drops...

    Moore Inflation Predictor: 8% CPI

total implosion of the u.s. real estate market

Then wouldn't rental property be the investment to own? You buy it leveraged at a ratio of 5 to 1 with an agreement to pay X amount of dollars for it a month. If the value of the dollar gets cut in half, you're collecting almost 2X in rent a month. So in effect, you get to keep half the rent...

    I'm Rich !!

I'm jealous. Thats a way better deal than I got from the sister of the Deposed dictator of Namibia who needed me to hold funds in my account for a share of the proceeds. But hey, maybe we could buy private islands next to each other or something.

Only fools are complaining about gas prices

Are you kidding me? The stuff I cut and pasted was a summary of the article, (not the entier article) and among other things, it said: "...The smallest vehicles in any type/body style generally have the highest (death) rates..." This was a quote from McCart, who summarized his entire study...

Only fools are complaining about gas prices

Do you think I didn't see that? I copied it in there for balance. But the guy who did the study gave the general results and they showed that the smaller vehicles aren't as safe. It was interesting that (IIRC), the study period includes the period when Fords were having all those problems...
