Took the rest of my profits off the table yesterday. Will wait for weakness to short again.

Sentiment re: US Equities -- apocalypse coming??

My dear sweet brother Noompsie! :D As a trader it's much more profitable to ride the ups and downs in any secular market rather than take one position and hold it. Even in the worst bear markets there are always powerful bounces that are worth playing. But if I were just a retail investor...

Sentiment re: US Equities -- apocalypse coming??

Bungrider, you should read "Conquer the Crash" by Robert Prechter. It makes a great case why the bearishness we're starting to see is just the beginning of what could turn out to be a deflationary depression that would eclipse and surpass that of the 30's. A lot of the technical analysis is...

Congrats to all fellow shorts on this one. I'll be taking half my position off the table by the close today.

$800 to $350 million in only 2 weeks!

I'll try and recall it as best I can as told to me by a professor who was in the Air Force. Basically, a Uranium clock is the most accurate clock known to man, accurate to something like one second per million years. A uranium clock was put on each of two AF jets, with the clocks both...

    Rebubbleization

Well, we're still firmly in two bubbles here in the U.S., the real estate bubble, and most ominously, the credit bubble. Neither have yet burst. Check out the book Conquer the Crash by Robert Prechter, which if you follow Elliott Wave analysis, beautifully illustrates the rise and fall of...

$800 to $350 million in only 2 weeks!

Actually, time travel has been accomplished before, albeit on a small scale. Ever hear about the experiments done by the military with jets and Uranium clocks?

    EBAY

So far, so good. Down 1 point from its intraday double top a few days ago. Not much of a cushion in a stock like this, but better than nothing.

    EBAY

There's no doubt about it--Ebay is a terrific company with a bright guaranteed future. I use them all the time as a buyer and a seller of goods. Stock wise, its "premium" reminds me of JNPR back when it was one of the last remaining overpriced cult stocks that was the last to come back down to...

    EBAY

It wouldn't surprise me to see a stock split announcement, seeing how EBAY has only split twice before and it's up there price wise. Just another reason I got that collar on to help me sleep at night.

    EBAY

To elaborate a little further, stocks that split (if they're strong) will tend to move back up quickly toward their pre split price, as more investors see the post split price as more of a bargain. See EXPE as a perfect example, which pre split had trouble getting above the 85 level, but after...

    Biased Moderators

For the love of God, man, relax a little bit. I can almost feel your high blood pressure through my monitor. Do you really think that you're going to change anyone else's opinions, any more than they're going to change yours? Go to just about any online forum right now, and you'll find plenty...

Who wants to short Yahoo with me?

That's the thing. Never try and time the top (or bottom). Always wait for weakness to jump on rather than fight the tape. If you choose to try and time it, protect yourself with options (or stops if daytrading).

Who wants to short Yahoo with me?

Yes, eventually the pig will fall, but there's no rule that says it can't keep going up more before it comes back down. Just be careful, or protect yourself with options.

Moderators allow Cheering of Iraqi Military

If you would simply click on the Kill link for said inappropriate post(s), it can be dealt with by the moderator who handles that particular forum, in the case of Chit Chat, Babak.

I shorted it today as it made an intraday double top around 3 pm. I also put on a May options collar for protection. We'll see what happens.

biggest down day of the year

I thought today was textbook (at least for the way I predominantly trade). Just use the 10am rule.

    Sick Feeling

It seems to me the issue is not whether or not one chooses to trade at this time, but rather showing a measure of sensitivity and restraint in not gloating over profits at this time . Personally, I don't believe a good trader should ever really revel OR get too low about their trades...

Nolan makes a great call re: monday's action

Perhaps I didn't state it correctly. What I meant was the difference between trading on what you think the market "should" do, and trading what the market actually does as it does it. As I said before, I didn't need to guess ahead of time which way the market was going to profit from it just...

Nolan makes a great call re: monday's action

Actually, successful trading over the long run happens not by betting ahead of time which way the market will go, but moving with the market after it's tipped its hand as to which way it's going. For instance, I didn't need to guess which way the market was going today to make a bundle, I just...
