    Bankruptcy Plays

i guess the point is to play the bonds and hedge the risk by shorting the stock. If the stock is below $5 two things happen: a. the bonds have a great yield b. if you play the bonds you risk getting nothing (or waiting for a bankruptcy restructuring which could take years). I'd like to...

    Bankruptcy Plays

Molon writes: According to the original version of Reg T (1934), it's not legal to short a stock under $5. ______________ Reg T says its not legal to short a stock that is not marginable. The SEC determines which stocks are marginable although a broker may impose additional restrictions...

Quicken Quotes Live to be discontinued

obviously very upsetting. Although I suppose I can research this forum for other choices can anyone here provide a quick summary of what the software choices are and pros and cons? I am a big QQL fan and I use CyberTrader for trades but I do not like CT's live quotes.

Its not true that you can't short a stock under $5. It depends on the broker.

    Bankruptcy Plays

good point. However, preferred stock is more like debt than stock when it comes to dividends. I always read the term sheet to confirm this but usually the dividend is locked in and can't be disposed of unless the company is bankrupt. However, I will not play MCICP, for instance, (WCOM's...

Is it all smoke and Mirrors?

i don't think it is juvenile to think about the best way to take advantage of a catastrophe to make more money trading. Many people on this board trade for a living and support families that way. A catastrophe will be horrible for many people, why make it more horrible by not making enough money...

    Bankruptcy Plays

I like to play companies that are near bankruptcy but have a chance of pulling out. I do it by playing the spread between the preferred stock or debt(which has some degree of protection in a bankruptcy) and the common (which has ZERO protection. CNC is a great example which I am considering...

    Bankruptcy Plays

I've been following this bankruptcy for quite some time. They basically went on a downward slide due to poor management plus a change in the tariffs on bananas being imported to Europe. Eventually they declared bankruptcy and emerged with a pre-packaged restructuring where basically the...

    any DYN traders??

Right now i'm doing about a 60% hedge based on correlations I've calculated towards the upside and correlations towards the downside. I also think AES has bottomed or is close to bottoming so I hedged with a slightly bullish bias.

    any WCOM traders?

I've been looking at WCOM again for a trade after playing it successfully from mid-Feb to early March. One issue I am nervous about is that if I were John Sidgemore I would bring this to bankruptcy as quickly as possible. His equity is currently worth basically nothing so why not negotiate a...

    TICK and TIKI

I tend to scalp with the tick. I use quicken software and use tick.n and tick.r to see the nyse tick and nasdaq tick. tick technique: a. if tick is < -400 I find a stock that is > 10% down. b. when tick goes > -200 and stock upticks twice in a row I buy c. if tick goes down 100 points...

    any DYN traders??

The entire IPP sector has been destroyed lately because of Enron, CA issues, trading issues. I trade in and out of DYN AES MIR RRI WMB CPN. The only stock that has a short-term chance is CPN: a. resolved all liquidity issues b. only IPP without a CA problem c. doesnt do as much trading as...

    Beating Buy and Hold

Why not Buy & Hold a great dividend yielding stock? I daytrade and swing trade but I always put earnings into the dividend yielding guys. For instance, MCIT is yielding 30% right and is at an all-time low due to Enronitis fears. SO, a stodgy utility company is yielding almost 6% and has...

    Good stocks

every week is different. This past week, and maybe next: TYC and WCOM. WCOM is great for large share sizes, tight trading ranges. TYC moves fast when it starts to move. It's been like NVDA on steroids the past two weeks. Also, OVER has been interesting to daytrade. It dopped 13 points in one...

I'm surprised you say the liquid aspect of TYC seems to be trailing off. The stock only traded 200M shares yesterday and had a 5pt range. How liquid do you want it?

    Who earns the most?

I am currently selling some real estate near "ground zero" in NYC. The place is assessed at $3M+. The only people who have come to look at it are hedge fund managers. And they all seem willing to make cash offers. I don't know what that means except that these guys are rolling in cash.

Qfeed. Maybe others as well but I use Qfeed for historical intraday data. For instance, I just loaded up a year's worth of five minute data on about 30 Nasdaq stocks in order to do some backtesting.
