the big deal is that the money needed to pay these six figure salaries must be taxed from those in the private sector.

Bank of America Will Repay $45 Billion to U.S. Bailout Fund

only until the next time they get in trouble and then it will be the taxpayers back at risk again.

Breaking: # Obama warns of a 'double dip' recession - 10:24 am

    Ron Paul Economics

Capitalism is fine but capitalism without that small nit-picky part of it that politicians, etc. don't like, namely failure, everything we do leads to bubbles.

US home buyer credit spurred 400,000 sales

and probably everyone paid at least $8k more than they would have financed over 30 yrs. what a deal.

Why are there so many people unemployed?

One of the main reasons is that there was a lot of mal-investment due, largely, to the gov't and the fed. Give tax breaks, low interest rates, etc. to homebuyers and that eventually fuels a lot of jobs and offshoot jobs. When that all stops, we lose them. There are other reasons, of course, but...

    Julian Robertson predicting 15-20% inflation

funny, the "watch the 2nd part of the interview with JR" link kicks you over to "Stop trading and listen to Cramer" video instead of the actual 2nd half. I guess that's a way to get people to watch him.

Geithner Will Consider Extending Home-Buyer Tax Credit (of course)

so, people will get to pay, probably, $15k more than they would have - amortized over 30yrs assuming it's not used for a down payment. nice. helps the realtors.... imagine that. oops, I forgot, they are the ones that wrote the legislation.

MUCH WORSE than The Great Depression

Agree. It was mostly about oil and strategic positioning within the region. Nothing wrong with that, IMO. I also don't think we have much problem with taking out as many terrorist sympathizers as we can, either as well as disrupting their ability to obtain stuff that could hurt a lot of people.

Thanks for that rec as well. Funny, just a little bit ago I saved this one to my list at amazon. Also found this one as well: http://www.amazon.com/Handbook-Statistical-Analyses-Using/dp/1584885394/ref=wl_itt_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=I20NUHUT4UMPT2&colid=2JJB5F5TAZBVC so will get one of those...

Anyone up for collaberating on replicating Chan scripts in Python?

Thanks for the detailed answer. Yes, you have likely convinced me. As I am not really familiar with the workings of R except for what you have mentioned and some that I have read, my big question is would I have access to some of the algorithms that are contained within RM without actually...

Anyone up for collaberating on replicating Chan scripts in Python?

dtrader, just curious if you feel R is better to delve into for data mining than rapidminer? I assume you do as you almost stated as much, but do the capabilities of R match-up to rapidminer? What would be some of the advantages of R? thanks

Banks not taking houses post-foreclosure = shadow inventory threatening economy

this is a good point and I have thought the same. I think this will be a form of housing subsidy. After all, what entity actually controls most of these loans?

Anyone up for collaberating on replicating Chan scripts in Python?

thanks and will do. I believe there is a series of youtube videos that use R for data mining.

We're Running Out of Oil! BP Finds A Mere 3 blln Barrels 250 Miles from Houston

Agree about oil being the no-brainer and it may not even pay to get cute with what else to invest in. I think it may be possible to leg-in to a large position over time. Also, had not thought of the collapse after the next huge run-up. Pays to try and stay 2 steps ahead.

Anyone up for collaberating on replicating Chan scripts in Python?

dtrader, I believe I recall you used rapidminer at one point as well. Are you still using it? If not, are you using something other package for data mining or using python instead?
