market or limit orders for fast moves after the opening bell?

right but when you say you sometimes get a partial fill and chase the rest, do you actually cancel it manually after only some of your order has been filled, or do you use something like an IOC or Market with Protection order so that they cancel it for you for your protection?

market or limit orders for fast moves after the opening bell?

ok just to confirm, you've used market orders at any time of the day including the first 5 minutes after the open and live executions are a lot faster than simulated ones? can i expect to be filled within 1-2 seconds even in the first 5 minutes even when everyone's trying to get their orders...

market or limit orders for fast moves after the opening bell?

right!exactly! that's what i was hoping to hear. although Kedwards maintains that the fills on the simulator are realistic. Nodoji, have you never used the real live IB platform? Practicing with small amounts of money using the real thing would seem like the obvious thing for me to do, but...

Demo Trading vs. Live Account Trading Execution

i realise it's been nearly 2 years since the last post, but at present i'm having very similar concerns to the original poster, in particular: can i expect any major difference in the speed of order execution (market orders) between my simulator and the real thing? my broker is interactive...

market or limit orders for fast moves after the opening bell?

thanks so much to you both for the fast replies even though i'm sure you'll have better things to do than worry about a complete stranger. i'll experiment with trying to configure my limit at a fixed amount (or preferably percentage?) above/below the bid/ask (or have i got that the wrong way...

market or limit orders for fast moves after the opening bell?

ok thanks i'll do that tomorrow. though it won't mean anything if excution speeds in the simulation are unrelated to those in "real life" , perhaps even totally random? which brings me back to the question: do simulators - or rather my simulator (interactive brokers) - accurately simulate the...

market or limit orders for fast moves after the opening bell?

are you sure? is that the case in general? i've never heard that before. only i really don't think i have time to enter my limit when things are moving so fast in the first few minutes. i need to be able to enter with a single click/push of a button (thanks for the tip about the hotkeys).

market or limit orders for fast moves after the opening bell?

thanks but i'd better reconfirm: these are paper trades, not the real thing; 2 minutes was the longest it has taken, usually more like 10-20 seconds. (still ridiculous of course if it were real money!). I've nearly always seen only positive feedback from interactive brokers users, especially...

market or limit orders for fast moves after the opening bell?

thanks for that reply would it be fair to say that average daily volume is a fair indicator of liquidity? any other factors i'll need to bear in mind? For some time now I've been hunting for something with the potential to deny me success and this issue of slow fills appears to be it. All of...

market or limit orders for fast moves after the opening bell?

i only post occasionally, usually when i'm in a real fix such as now I¡¯ve recently been brought down to earth using IB papertrading as I¡¯ve realised that market orders can NOT be used just as a stock is about to fall/rise very fast, because by the time they¡¯re executed the whole...

Remove the Pattern Day Trading Rulle - Vote

Hi, I've yet to make a single trade with real money, nor even a paper trade for that matter, but have spent months researching intraday stock trading and backtesting every day with pen and paper with consistent success. However.. I've been doing all this with UK (LSE listed) stocks...
