The Buffett Plan For Reducing The Trade Deficit

If the U.S. wants to reduce their trade deficit, why don't they start by increasing the tax on gasoline. The increased price in gas would force people to start seeking home grown alternatives. No country is going to retaliate with a trade war over higher gas taxes. Most of the world already...

Obama touts plan to end imported oil reliance within 10 years

Very funny......talking about bankruptcy: http://www.rense.com/general49/bankrupt.htm I always understood that the Republicans in the US are supposed to be fiscally conservative. What happened? Did they change sides?

Obama touts plan to end imported oil reliance within 10 years

If America ended it's dependance on imported oils they'd solve a lot of their problems. Explain to me what is the advantage for the USA to continue importing 750 billion dollars of oil every year? I suppose it's good for us here in Canada, we're the biggest supplier right now.

Will Gas Ever Go Back to $2.00-$2.50?

People think I'm nuts but I've always hoped to see gas at $5 a gallon or higher. High gas prices will force the US to seek alternatives which would solve a lot of their problems. The US sends about $750 billion a year out of the country to pay for foreign oil which is slowly bankrupting them...

    Traveling to Europe,should i hedge?

Why tie up your money for 6 months in Euros that might just as well go down instead of up. If you have $20,000 to spare, why not invest it in something that is more likely than Euros to go up 10 or 20% in six months.

    Traveling to Europe,should i hedge?

I think the Euro is already close to it's peak, I doubt there's much risk of it going a lot higher right now. Check out the "Big Mac Index" and you'll see how overvalued the Euro is right now: http://www.economist.com/finance/displaystory.cfm?story_id=11793125 I think the bigger thing to...

The Buffett Plan For Reducing The Trade Deficit

Warren's plan sounds far too complicated and it will end up causing a lot of retaliation from trading partners. Wouldn't it be so much simpler to just let the American dollar depreciate 5 or 10% more?

The Wealth and Power Of the US Is Being Transferred.....Solution?

According to this article, oil from algae is already cost effective when the price of oil exceed $100 a barrel: http://www.nmt.edu/mainpage/news/2008/25june01.html

The Wealth and Power Of the US Is Being Transferred.....Solution?

Fuel from algae would be the best solution. A 100 mile by 100 mile area with algae farms would provide enough fuel for all the United States. Algae fuel would also solve the problem of global warming as algae consume CO2. The biggest problem with algae fuel right now is the high cost of...

I am thinking of buying a GAS SCOOTER

In good weather I prefer a bicycle too. I always stay off the busy main roads or any road that has more than two lanes. It's too dangerous for yourself and you're just a nuisance to the cars as well in busy traffic. I've figured out how to get through the city using quiet subdivision streets...

I am thinking of buying a GAS SCOOTER

The best solution I see right now is a plug in hybrid. Regular hybrids are just a superficial solution when you only get about 10 or 20% better fuel efficiency. You can get a kit here for about $10,000: http://www.treehugger.com/files/2006/02/plugin_hybrid_k.php From the fuel savings you...

    War with Iran next week?!?

Iraq started selling their oil in Euros, war was declared against them and now they're selling in Dollars again. Iran starts selling their oil in Euros and watch what will happen to them. The US has always enjoyed the benefits of an enormous interest free loan from most of the world because...

Who wins with high Gas Prices?

At this point when the world is pretty well using all the oil that it makes it would hardly matter if the American government lowered the gas taxes. If taxes were lowered, Americans would use more gasoline but India and China are now competing for the same oil so that would push the crude oil...

Study: Gas will soon be at $10/gallon

When is the rally to ask for higher gas prices? I want to join that one!

    Newspaper Circulation Falls Again

There is some online advertising but most of it is far too slow to load. It's much more convenient and quicker to look at a paper flyer. Advertisers have to make internet ads simple and quick, forget all the fancy graphics, plugins, super slow adobe etc. Advertising artists might do a good job...

Study: Gas will soon be at $10/gallon

Eventually the oil prices will go high enough so that Americans will stop buying overseas oil. They'll hopefully spend that money at home to buy alternative energy. I don't know if that will happen in five years or fifty years but it has to happen for sure at some point.

    Newspaper Circulation Falls Again

I got rid of subscriptions to two printed newspapers a few years ago and saved $400 a year. I use part of that savings to buy a new wireless laptop every few years which has replaced my newspapers. I never have to worry that the newspaper doesn't arrive in time before I have to go to work. I...

The Problem with Hybrids: Chevy Tahoe - $55k

The only hybrid that makes any real sense right now is a plug in hybrid. Most people drive less than 20 miles each day. That would mean that you could run mostly on recharges and rarely have to go to the gas station. If you needed to make a longer trip once in a while, the gas engine would be...

Lol! Cramer: "higher Oil Is A Good Thing"

The people might suffer a little in the transition but nothing like they would suffer if the worst predictions of global climate change takes place: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2005/02/050223130549.htm
