Here is the CME's complete explanation

Those who "assumed" that it was going to be a short glitch, consciously took the risk that it wasn't going to be a short glitch, and lost. Plain and simple. [/B] The communication led people to believe that the system would be back up soon, then later, then that day, then unknown. In other...

    Exchange Fees

Thanks for the response. My point is that traders know of these fees in advance. The fees are what they are. My responses 1) I think most people forget that trading is a professional's game. The larger you are, whether as a independent trader or working for a bank, the greater advantage...

Here is the CME's complete explanation

Further, if people spent more time in analyzing the markets and trading, they wouldn't have to blame there lousy trading on conspiracy theories. Everyone on ET wants to bitch about unfairness, high exchange fees, and anything else they can think about. Why don't you focus that energy on being a...

Here is the CME's complete explanation

Couldn't agree more. The minis are the cash cow of the CME. Why in the world would they want to shut that down? Now that they're public and the CEO has $100 Mil worth of options, earnings matter a hell of alot more than before. They didn't shut it down to hurt or help anyone. As far as pit...

    Futures Market vs. Cash Market

Competition for market share? What markets are you referring to ? Futures market is the cash market, in the future. Futures are used to hedge against moves in the cash market. Eventually, the futures price will converge to the cash market, as the contract gets closer to expiration.

    Exchange Fees

I've read alot of posts on ET about people complaining about exchange fees. But I've read very few that offer solid, defense of why not. So I wanted to pose a question to you all. Why shouldn't exchanges be allowed to charge fees? I'll begin by playing devils advocate. I think that...

    True lies about Fibonacci

Not human nature, just nature. Fib ratios describe mathematically alot of natural things such as the arc of waves crashing, the development of round sea shells, and has already been stated, the golden ratio. The point isn't that rabbit reproduction equals human nature. Rather that the...

    Dow Eminis

Actually, I was reading (don't know where) that the CME and CBOT consider the size, tick size, expiration, etc. proprietary on their financial contracts since they were the ones to analyze, market , and develop them. Should be interesting to see how this situation works out next year.

    Trading grains

Absolutely. You can definitely use TA to trade the grains. As with any market, it helps if you can combine some knowlkedge with the TA. But I think that the basics of the grain market can be learned if your serious about learning them. In short, many use TA to trade the grains.

    Leasing exchange membership

I was actually wondering what kind of fees there are in addition to the cost of the seat lease? Aren't there monthly membership fees? Also, what are the fees/rates for the clearing firm? Is there a fee to use a/c/e? Thanks very much.

    Motherload of QQQ puts

Doesn't know how to soothe a position? I think they got what they wanted which was a lot of talk about "that huge bearish position in the QQQ's". They probably got a lot more than they paid for, in addition to large execution.

Turn the NYSE into an ECN

I couldn't agree more with the sentiment of this post. Too many people on ET bitch about everything. If you view something as unfair, don't trade it plain and simple. There are 7000 stocks and you choose to trade with shady specialists, well looks like you're the fool then.

Turn the NYSE into an ECN

Lobster, I'm glad to see that there are some people on ET with the brains to think analytically. Unfortunately, Idea #1 violates the "open auction" marketplace that defines the NYSE. I think other foreign exchanges do a similar thing where they group orders together and execute at certain...

    Mid-America Commodity Exchange

I'm starting this thread to see if anyone else here has some good stories or experiences about the backbone of Chicago's Futures Exchanges, The Mid-America Commodity Exchange(read sarcsasm). It was also known affectionately by us in the know as "DA MIDAM".

    Trading grains

100 WOOHOO! I worked on the CBOT grain floor the last or second to last summer before they closed down the midam. I never understood how that place stayed open. 15 guys in pit, all leaning on the railings. It must have taken AT LEAST 2 minutes to deliver market orders there, from the grain...
