    Discipline & Greed

If you are dumb enough to believe you can make money from playing baccarat, you really shouldn't be trading at all. There is some dependency between rounds i.e. if you counted cards if might give you some advantage, but NOT enough to overcome the house advantage. From...

    1994 Bond Market Collapse

I was in college and trading options. Almost lost my whole acct (wasn't much, about £5k) by buying puts and selling them out for a loss. I was basically fighting the rise of the stock market, I think it looked overvalued (yes was a fundamentalist then). Had maybe £1k left. Stuck it all on FTSE...

Fisher: QE not _obviously_ a done deal

What the hell is DISINFLATION????????? The numbers from that link, crooked as they are, show persistent inflation. I can't for the life of me figure out why you guys* would let your authorities to deliberately try and raise your entire cost of living. *Actually, not fair. The idiots...

Why does ET countertrend powerful trends so much ?

By definition, all winning trades must mean that you were "in the trend" for at least a portion of the time between your entry and exit.. For example say you bought at 10 and sold at 20. The trade took an hour. For a portion (or perhaps the full hour) you were in the trend.

What % of daytraders losses come from trading commissions?

Assuming a daytrader is losing money, it's an important question. If a large proportion of the losses are because of commissions, the trader has to change his strategy e.g. trade less, higher time frames, perhaps different instruments. Even if s/he isn't losing, you still need to look at how...

What if QE2 does not come?

When they announce QE2, I will sell. (buy on the rumour, sell on the news, right?)

    Natural Gas... $1.70 Target?

Right...well, now pls feel to discuss my idea of buying options rather than trying to predict the exact low.

    Natural Gas... $1.70 Target?

One way of playing this might be to buy short to medium term calls on the futures...say 0.25% of your account. (just a thought though, please don't put me on your ignore list!)

No spread, no commission, how would you trade?

:D Ok, not hypothetical! I only said that because of the comments made by the two posters after my opening post. STILL, I know how I'm trading there, but I'm curious as to how others would approach it.

No spread, no commission, how would you trade?

Let's just say it's a hypothetical situation. Assume you are allowed the following instruments (trades have to be closed out by the end of end, so talking about day trading, nothing longer): * FTSE * DAX * CAC * EURO STOXX * GILT * BUND * EURUSD *...

No spread, no commission, how would you trade?

If there was no commission and no spread i.e. you trade at the midpoint between the normal bid/offer, which futures markets would you trade and on what time period?

Does trend following have an edge?

From your professor's excel sheet: "This workbook is used to show that coin tosses can generate charts that look very similar to the types of charts that technical analysts use to forecast future stock price moves. You will notice all of the same patterns as seen in normal stock (High Low...

Does trend following have an edge?

Yes, but only in a historical sense. There is no predictive power as to whether the trend of heads will continue (assuming a fair coin). Past outcomes do not influence future ones. This is evidently not the same in a market where the decisions of previous buyers /sellers, as expressed by the...

Does trend following have an edge?

So you're saying that there is a statistical edge?

Does trend following have an edge?

If so, can you please tell me what it is? N.B. I'm not saying that you need an edge necessarily to make money...
