UK Spending Review 2010: cuts leave middle class £10,000 worse off

France wants to raise its retirement age (i.e. the age at which people receive their pensions from the govt) from 60 to 62. Doesn't sound like a big deal, right? Yet the French public has gone mental! The govt here will raise the retirement age from 65 to 66 (starting in 2020). There's been a...

James Altucher's Retirement Guide: Why You "Only" Need $2 Million

You guys are going to need $100 million to retire on because your dollar will be near worthless within 10 years. Bernanke and Geithner are determined to make this happen :D Don't worry, I'm going to need £100 million myself. Mervyn King is going to make this happen for me

UK Spending Review 2010: cuts leave middle class £10,000 worse off

The cuts aren't deep enough, tbh. The deficit will still mean the overall debt of the UK will rise by 50% after five years.

With regard to point 1: I was referring to the price of goods and services, not quickly changing technology. With regard to point 2: Not true. A diagram showing demand and supply curves (see the simple economics 101 book at Chapters for more information) will quickly demonstrate that people...

Quote from Visaria: My teenage nephew was of the same opinion. Told me we were in a recession because house prices were going down. Basically, he equated rising prices as a sign of prosperity and vice versa Um, no. I'm quite sure that is what he said and meant. :p

http://research.stlouisfed.org/publications/iet/japan/page4.pdf According to this, deflation is very subdued, a couple of percent this year, in '08 they had roaring inflation of 2%. Prices are ridiculously high in Japan and need to come down but for whatever reason, they aren't coming down...

Strange arguments against deflation. I bought a computer the other month even though I know if I waited till this month I could have bought it cheaper and probably better spec as well. The reality is that people don't wait to buy just because stuff becomes cheaper. If you expect food prices to...

Bill Miller say stocks are cheap and says 20% upside in markets coming!!!!!!

I don't like this money printing policy any more than the next man. But...if you can't beat them, join 'em. If you want to preserve your own personal wealth, you pretty much have to buy real assets. I'm sure you would rather be in the few percent that protect their wealth compared to vast...

UK Spending Review: Osborne prepares to unveil cuts

I have no idea why they are protecting Overseas Development. They should cut that to zero. We can't afford it. Charity begins at home. Rather strangely they are going to cut the defence budget, and also policing (i.e. law and order), both fundamental and legitimate parts of govt.
