Could the U.S. central bank go broke?

You argue Uncle Ben did the 1st round of QE because of deflation in 2009. But why did he initiate the 2nd round of QE late last year? The CPI index wasn't falling , it was going straight up and is now at record highs!

Could the U.S. central bank go broke?

I've never made any "cries of hyperinflation". You see deflation as a bad thing, I see it as a positive. Admittedly it would be disastrous for those in debt, but it would clean them out and enable the whole system to be cleaned out. Have you looked at Japan's economy lately? They made all...

Could the U.S. central bank go broke?

You said the CPI was neg 2% in 2009. I don't see that in the table.

Could the U.S. central bank go broke?

I haven't been to the US for a few years now, but that's not what I've heard from people I know who live in NY. They tell me food has gone up, restaurant prices have gone up, entertainment such as tickets to the cinema and theatre admission prices have shot up. What about gas, up or down?

Could the U.S. central bank go broke?

I'm sure the Fed wants inflation. But do the people want to pay more for for stuff? Do they want their currency to be worth less? Btw, +1.5% on the CPI isn't deflation. Do you even believe the official numbers?

Could the U.S. central bank go broke?

Actually, I'm not sure what your question means since dollars are not redeemable in gold.

Could the U.S. central bank go broke?

I read somewhere that US gold reserves especially in Fort Knox have not been audited for decades and no-one is even sure if there still is any gold there. I don't know the truth of this.

Could the U.S. central bank go broke?

"Right now the Fed is worried about deflation..." Why? I assume you live in the States, are you seeing price decreases when you go shopping? Do you buy petrol (gas) for your vehicle? Do you buy food to eat? Where is this deflation?

Could the U.S. central bank go broke?

You're not considering the impact if such a situation arose. If the Fed had to start printing in order to fulfil its obligations, the dollar becomes more and more worthless. A spiral develops, in the end the fed is just printing toilet paper.

Could the U.S. central bank go broke?

Ok, liquidity concerns. You want to do your multi billion dollar deal say in South African rand, however your bank kindly tells you the liquidity isn't there, only in dollars.

Could the U.S. central bank go broke?

The other party wants dollars, doesn't want to deal in whatever you want to trade in.

Could the U.S. central bank go broke?

I'm so surprised you Yanks don't do a "Tunisia" and riot on the streets against all your crazy govt policies including all that QE bullshit. I mean Bernanke has explicitly said he thinks your cost of living is too low and is committed to raising it! He wants to you guys to pay more for...

Could the U.S. central bank go broke?

Both predecessors of the Fed either went bust or were closed down.

Could the U.S. central bank go broke?

The Fed has a strong bias against raising short term interest rates since this is bound to push long term yields higher and bond prices down, thus decreasing the value of their bond portfolio. Basically the Fed is a mess, it should declare insolvency and close down. It's more or less...

Goldman Sach s are criminals and theives.

You're wrong about this (not that means you're right about anything else!). Both my trader friends at GS (one in NY and other other in London) are quitting this year precisely because of the implementation of the Volcker rule. They don't want to, but they have no choice. Traders I know at other...
