Am I ready to go live?

Seems the issue I need to account for is this: Entering or exiting multi-contract trades (the more contracts, the bigger the issue) using LIMIT orders opens up the chances of getting partial fills and the attendant difficulties, i.e. making sure the unfilled portions, which are still live...

Am I ready to go live?

Tks to you MACD! I did trade options last year and lost enough to quit. I found it difficult to get the timing of a move consistently. The day trading I'm doing now seems more straightforward, like playing gin rummy quickly. You take a card, if it helps your hand you keep it and discard your...

Am I ready to go live?

Thank you very much Jdesey. Presently I'm having about one day a week when I seem too caffeined up and try to trade based on what it seems the mkt will do next. Of course those days are net losses. The other days I am cooler and wait until the market confirms it is doing something and then...

I'm working on that. Point well taken, tks.

Am I ready to go live?

This week I started trading 3 contracts per trade (I think that's called a "three lot", at least that's what we called in the back office of the options brokerage where I worked 2000~2004). I've gotten a few partial fills using limit entry orders, so I've started to experience that (the Trade...

Am I ready to go live?

As I have very limited experience, I haven't PLANNED any amount for slippage. On good days I occasionally get way ahead of myself and start wondering how to get fills on large lot orders. I anticipate I won't be able to "scalp" for 1~2 points at over 5 contracts. Perhaps y'all could shed me...

Am I ready to go live?

@nakachalet I will try to post a screenshot of yesterday's and today's trading (it will be 1500 tick bar chart with Barry Taylor's "Better Indicators" - all mistakes and poor trades are mine, not Barry's), I will also try to post snips of my spreadsheet tracking my results. Obviously...

Am I ready to go live?

I appreciate the thoughtful comments here. No offense, but y'all are back up. I will make my own decision (together with my wife, obviously ;) )

Am I ready to go live?

I'm still here! I thought I caught all the wisdom in the first flurry of replies. Was shocked to see all the additions. Busy taking notes of the nuggets here.

Am I ready to go live?

FWIW I really am 64, that's how I'm able to collect SS. At this point being real is the only way to get past all the crap on the internet.

Am I ready to go live?

nakachalet that's a cool idea. I do send a screenshot to my mentor. As for seeing my setups, it would be difficult. I watch a screen that has three time frames - 500 ticks, 1500, and 4500 ticks, a screen that has all three combined, and the DOM. When the indicators show agreement, then I...

    I hear ya, Murray, thanks.

Am I ready to go live?

On the other hand, if the market isn't giving you range & volume, even making 1~2 points per trade and compounding the profits will still provide great results over a relatively short time period. Say, 4 net points / day / contract @ 1 contract per $8k equity compounds to substantial amounts.

Am I ready to go live?

Thank you much for the wise comments! As it happens, I am fortunate to have basic living expenses covered by working wife (much younger than me) and SS. The 2.5% represents my 4 point stop loss ($8,000 equity per contract) on trades attempting to take 4 points out of a roughly 10 point trend...

Am I ready to go live?

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, that's me. The pic is a head shot I had made when I was trying to get into voice acting. That was a bust, but kind of interesting.

I understand. I just have no idea how to automate such using the indicators.

Am I ready to go live?

I agree, "untestable" and "unproven". I think I can only prove through my performance. Pardon copping out, but here is a reference to how I try to trade using the indicators: http://emini-watch.com/emini-trading/emini-day-trading/
