Save up to $300 on a NinjaTrader Lifetime License! Promotion Ends 12/19/2014.

Thanks, that's very helpful. I'm an IB customer who trades US stocks and futures. If I wanted to continue to trade in my IB brokerage account, I guess the value proposition for someone like me to use NinjaTrader would be your enhanced front-end for ease of use and capabilities. In this case...

Why are oil prices so low?

How does OPEC get the price to fall so far so fast? Are they selling massive volumes of contracts in the futures market, or lowering the price of the physical?

Save up to $300 on a NinjaTrader Lifetime License! Promotion Ends 12/19/2014.

I'm not a NinjaTrader customer/user, so my questions are very basic and reveal my ignorance on this product, but others may be wondering the same thing ... I thought NinjaTrader was a brokerage. In this case, what are brokerage customers buying that they aren't already getting as part of the...

Please recommend Futures Broker and Platform

The big differentiator for IB is their Universal Account which allows you to trade stocks and futures from the same account. This is a great convenience if you want to fund your trading from one source instead of maintaining separate accounts. The Universal Account is also nice if you spread...

Please tell me the term for......

In the old days, you could do what you are describing with stocks. You could have a long position in shares and a short position at the same time. To open a short position the order type would be Sell Short or Sell to Open. Another order type to close a long position would be Sell to Close...

Why you should never listen to the morons in the internet

The early versions of Java were flawed in a manner that made them a bad choice for realtime trading platforms. The garbage collector (the function which identifies memory that has been allocated but is no longer needed and is released for use by other processes) would run at random times and...

    Has this place died?

I think ET is still a great resource. If you've followed the forums for awhile, you will learn the posters who know their stuff and add a lot of value. Where else can a retail guy get this kind of exposure to talented traders? I'm not in that top class, but I will post a learning to share and...

Interactive Brokers Revising Fees for Data

I wish they could lower that ICE Futures fee of $85/month. I wonder if there really is a higher cost to provide realtime quotes for this exchange, or if they want to discourage retail traders from participating, or something else... It's the exchange for the Russell 2000 e-mini (TF).

Agreed on the laptop! But you still need a power backup for your internet modem/router.

    Equity Spread Trading Hedge Ratios

You might notice that sjfan's post was made over 5 years ago. And the Like feature only became available with the recent software upgrade. That's OK, this is still a timely and interesting topic! Post on!

    Futures Flies - Get Filled?

Globex shuts down every afternoon (on trading days) for one hour. It will be back up shortly for the overnight session.

    Futures Flies - Get Filled?

One thing you can do is add a study to the IB chart of a Moving Average with length=1. This is effectively a line chart on the Close. Then just reference this line and ignore the rest of the bar.

    Futures Flies - Get Filled?

IB's chart format uses bar/candles which show the high/low for each bar. The problem is that IB does not calculate the high/low using time-synchronized prices for all legs of the spread, so these high/low values can be inaccurate and show price levels that the actual spread never reaches. The...

Spread Price - how is it calculated?

Update: I just discovered that you can see the multiplier by right-clicking on the quote line (NOT the order line) and selecting Contract Info/Description.

    Correlated futures pairs

The narrow range for Eurodollar rates in this low interest rate environment combined with bid/ask spreads and commish for multi-leg strategies like flies/condors leaves little profit on these trades. Are you finding differently?

    Correlated futures pairs

Correlations are easy to find: http://www.mrci.com/special/correl.htm What is your purpose in asking? Do you feel there is some trading edge in correlations?

Ernie Chan claims that statistical arbitrage is better than momentum like trend

Bone, I think you meant to say highly cointegrated products. Correlation isn't a requirement for mean reversion.
