    SpreadProfessor Clients - Thanks !

That is one of a couple make-or-break questions that I would address in a pre-interview phone conversation. With futures margins and spread margins already so low, it seems odd to go prop with futures. It makes more sense for equity trading with huge RegT margins. The value proposition (for...

    SpreadProfessor Clients - Thanks !

So then, dumb question ... what if I place a few swing trade opening orders that I expect to ripen in a week or so. What am I doing there all day, every day, until I close my orders? Do they have a special room with pool tables and TV?

    SpreadProfessor Clients - Thanks !

Just curious about the prop firm arrangement ... if you daytrade I can understand about being physically present in their office to trade. But if you trade on a higher time frame, like swing trading over days or weeks like I understand your clients do, then why is it essential to be in their...

    Laptop Recommendation?

I'm a fan of the lighted keyboard, too. It's like heated seats in your car, not essential, but just makes everything better.

    Interactive Brokers or TradeStation?

Despite the broker surveys that are published, there really is no such thing as the "best broker platform". Each has strengths and weaknesses and you need to match their strengths to your specific needs to find the best broker for you. So you need to consider what's important for you. For...

Problems trading futures in IRA accounts at IB?

When you setup an order in TWS, before you submit it you can click "Check Margin Impact" on the Order Ticket to display the Order Preview screen which shows you the margin requirement for the position. Unfortunately, it only shows you the margin required for the session you are currently in...

How do you maintain the slingshot hedge as mentioned in Carles Cottle's book

Suggest you just send him a message and ask him. My impression of him is that he's very approachable and will probably respond to a sincere, well-formed question. He has an inquiry form on his website.

    Laptop Recommendation?

Sounds good. This onsite warranty by Lenovo makes them competitive (from a warranty standpoint) with Dell which also offers an onsite warranty. It's possible they both contract to the same 3rd-party service for onsite support in some regions. I have leaned toward Dell because sometimes I like...

    Laptop Recommendation?

I like onsite warranties, they are a great convenience when you need them. Who did you purchase your onsite warranty from?

Even though this example makes reference to a trading opportunity decades old, the lesson for spread trading still applies today. Market selection and identifying these obscure relationships is an edge that can trump timing indicators/patterns and all the other conventional stuff.

    The ACD Method

I don't know what Mav's current status is, maybe he just moved on after an impressive 20K posts. There have been a handful of members like Mav who have added great value to this forum over the years. I wonder if they leave, at least in part, because they are not properly recognized for sharing...

Quit prop firm after server side technology issues with API cost me my year; advice on non compete

I don't know much about prop firms, but non-compete restrictions are usually involved when the company has provided you with some significant value (e.g., training, trading strategies) that would cause them harm or put them at a competitive disadvantage. What, if anything, did they do for you...

HFT Lawsuits Against U.S. Equity Exchanges Thrown Out

Next stop: congressional hearings to determine how pay-for-speed figures into fair and orderly markets.

    Colocating

I would make a distinction between colocating for speed versus other solutions for high availability (HA). If you are trading high-frequency (trade completes within seconds), then speed is paramount and you want your trading computer to be located at the exchange (colo) or near the exchange...

    Bright Trading online class

Bright has scheduled a series of webinars in the very near future that will cover topics like Pairs Trading. Cost is $500, which is a lot less than what it used to cost to attend an onsite class. An outline of topics is provided on their website (I won't post it here since they are no longer a...

    SpreadProfessor Clients - Thanks !

I find the inter-market spreads are more intuitive with regard to modeling, but the logistical aspects (hedge ratios, margin, execution) are more difficult. Those logistical factors are simpler with intra-commodity spreads. But with intras, you are essentially trading the convexity/concavity...

Bone, thanks for posting these charts. These are, of course, calendar and fly spreads. Have you noticed any significant differences in spread behavior for these intra-commodity spreads vs. inter-market spreads?

The SSD Endurance Experiment... (they're all dead now)

I haven't looked into this for a couple years, but last time I checked there was no drive controller that supported SSD's in Raid 1 due to lack of support for TRIM. All that may have changed in the last couple years, and that would be great. Which controller (brand/model) are you using?
