Why do analyst give their estimates?

I am not talking about the recommendations. I know that most recommendations are biased toward buying. What I'm really talking about is the forecasts that analysts give, the the expected EPS for the next fiscal year. They usually update it every month. Most stocks perform based on future...

Why do analyst give their estimates?

I don't think it's that late. When a company does report earnings and analysts got their estimates wrong, they are usually revised with 2-3 days. You can check for yourself on reuters after an earnings release.

Why do analyst give their estimates?

For the most part, the analyst estimates are pretty good in determining what the stock is likely to report in earnings. Also, it shows how the institutional side is feeling about a stock, depending on the revisions they make to their estimates. What I'm wondering is why would analysts, who...

    drys..

ok supposedly, BDI is a good indicator of future economic growth because if there's growth, then more demand for dry bulk shipping, BDI goes up BUT, does anyone really believe that the global economy stops now and would cause BDI to drop this much and cause drybulk shippers to drop 15%...

I guess the fed was right?

if inflation does get out of the hand, the fed still has the option to raise rates in the future. why couldnt the cut have been just a temporary easing to help the credit problem?

I guess the fed was right?

with the shitty durable goods, consumer confidence, and home sales reports that came out this week, don't you reckon that bernanke knew what he was doing when he cut the rate by 50 basis points?

    Can someone explain to me...

how do bonds play into this? and the implications for the stock market?

    Can someone explain to me...

the relationships between interest rates, the dollar, inflation, and the debt? I understand that cutting interest rates would lower the value of the dollar and increase inflation, but what would that mean for debt?

Is it just me, or is the .50 drop BAD for the econ?

i thought inflation was caused from growing global demand of commodities. and if that's the case, what can the fed really do about inflation??? a weakening dollar and higher inflation, arent those the tradeoffs from globalization?

Ben Bernanke and the Fed Funds Rate.

do you guys fail to realize the guys running the fed are smarter than all of you?

    SP500 chart

Looking at the SP500 chart, it seems that an upside down head n shoulders has formed. If we do break resistance around 1480 level, we should go higher. Does anyone see the same thing or feel the same way?
