Prechter's case for a bear market...

Chas, I would not fade him, but I also don't buy into his overly bearish case. I too was a little too bullish, not just last week. The 90% indicator is interesting, I use TC-2000 plus some stuff from barrons to get daily and weekly opinions. At this point, I can't say as I am leaning...

Prechter's case for a bear market...

Chas, That was interesting, but does that mean it's time to buy? Precther got his followers out of stocks and short right at the start of the 80s bull market from what I remember. He was a hero in 73-74, kinda like Batapagilla and Cohen were in the late 90s.

Question for an investor type on TVX

Over the past two years I could probably count on one hand the times I sold something for a profit and felt bad later. If nothing else, sell 1/2 of the position and see what happens with the rest. The market will usually take the price through the offer if there is speculation on a second or a...

estimated tax - is it worth it?

Crazy, If the bulk of your income was in qtr 3 and 4 you may be able to minimize the penalty. Look under the section of Estimated taxes for annualization. If you are using an electronic tax product you should try revalculating to see if this avoids/minimizes the penalty. Good Luck...

    Yield with no risk?

Darkhorse, welcome back. Now that the pleasantries are out of the way. Value Line has a convertibe bond survey that is similar to the other ratings they have. It may be worth looking at the trial subscription which gives you reports on the whole universe. Buying converts and shorting the...

    Yield with no risk?

Babak, Do you know what the conversion option is? If the option is fixed let's just say 1 to 1. The the only risk I would see is if the dividend was cut or not paid, similar to MCIT. In this case hypothetically both xct and cvc could go to zero so the cost is commission and time value...

    Foreign

SSB, I agree with you until recently. This year I have started to build positions in some foreign bond funds which have been doing pretty well. I figure the risk is offset by the high dividend rates. Not to mention if we do get a flight of capital the foreign bond markets will perk up...

    QQQ heading for 9-11 levels?

Topgun, Not sure if you have access to the A/D line of the Nas 100, it is on TC-2000. Unfortunately it not only broke the February low it took out the Sept Lows. To me this is a negative divergence that means a few of the bigger stocks are holding up the price. Last time I played with you...

MER fined 100million-postage cost last year 349 million

Charles Watson takes DYN from 50 to 8 and walks away with a $33,000,000 payday for his failure. Not to mention the $11,000,000 handout he got each year. I'm not sure which pisses me off more, this sort of stealing or someone who pays for their food with foodstamps and then hops in a new vette...

SSB, You can get some information on the webs at www.ishares.com. WWW.Morningstar.com has a good site that lists closed end funds that trade on the US exchanges. This is my preferred method since it allows you to work normal hours and use your current broker. The thing with closed end...

Easier to run than Joe Kernan. 1M plus shares today, he got the tip i'm assuming from someone who did not take a vow of poverty. Greater than .2 but less than .3 Gold stock on otc.bb, wow it is unsual for someone to start a rumor on those. Other options: AACS 0.25 0.02 6.52%...

surge and backup all in one???

Janko, I use the APCC 500VA which has the features that you are looking for. Don't remember how long it lasts (10 minutes) it is then plugged into my old surge protector since what does one do with two surge protectors. Think it was about $60 give or take $20 a year or two back. There...

To save you a little time and money, here are some things you will need to establish to accomplish what you are trying to do. A TRUST is a legal entity created when a person (grantor) TRANSFERS OWNERSHIP of property to a trustee to be held for the benefit of another person or entity. After...

    Bypassing Wall St.

Chasin, That looks like good news on the surface, we will see how it works in practice. I have the cancel problem once in a while, but more often when I screw up. It will be interesting to see how putting a few orders out on ARCA in say 2 months will work out. My big question...

    Free Trade opinions?

I don't know anything about the platform itself, but they do get paid for orderflow. If you hold your trades for a while or don't need speed and/or best price then why not. It is a division of Ameritrade and your account is protected up to 100K in cash, not shabby.
