What's the best futures broker for eminis?

I've been looking for a future's broker the past 3 days and am amazed that nobody can compete with IB in the futures side with the 2.40$ commish. Main rub seems to be system failure and inability to get trade desk to close out positions in event of crash. Most "solutions" seems to be to get...

    misconception about futures

Hi Stevet I agree with you on most of your statement above. I read somewhere that a stocks movement over time can be attributed to 50% overall market (SP), 30% sector strength and the rest on that specific company's fundamentals. That is why I am going to try emini trading to see if I can do...

    TWS Problems cont.

Hi Lawrence. I am thinking of using TWS and your comments re: TWS possibly locking up due to proxy or firewall piqued my interest. i use 2 computers linked by a linksys router which enables the 2 to share 1 cabl modem. Does the linksys qualify as a firewall? thanks in advance.

    IB: Yes or No??

I am in the process of opening a futures acc t for eminis and have been exposed to the debate of IB vs. Terra nova, other brokers who can't offer IB rates. Main complaint seems to be if IB goes down, it goes down hard w/o any trade desk to get you out. I guess it will forever be a balancing...

    Emini trading!

Hi Stevet Since you mentioned fungibility, here is a question I've been meaning to ask. I have an equities account and am thinking of opening a futures account with one possibly 2 brokers to protect myself from system crashes in daytrading eminis. If I open only 1 futures account and am long...

    Emini trading!

Hi guys. Someone here suggested picking 2 brokers in the event of a breakdown in one of the systems. A common sales pitch given to me by futures brokers is that they, unlike Interactive Brokers, have a trading desk staffed with order takers who can take you out of a trade if system goes...

    Options Trading at Prop Firms?

Gene , other than conversions and married puts, could you elaborate a little on your view about trading stocks and use options as a hedge? Thanks

    Options Trading at Prop Firms?

I am curious to know why they won't allow electronic entry. I think only Broker dealers can allow elec access not pro firms. Anyone care to shed a light as to why only non-pros can . Hmm... just 'dumb money ?...

    Options Trading at Prop Firms?

You'd be hard pressed in finding one. There are a couple of reasons why. Most important is that there is no incentive for them to do it. Could you imagine pro traders putting on a time spread 20 times and not taking it off for 2-3 weeks. How would the props make $.Another reason is the risk...

    volitility

Best asnwer I can give you is to subscribe to a data provider that looks back to the period you need to plumb and subscribe to a charting package that has a function called hist vol. This way you can look at stock x years back and using the package get the 20,30,60 ,200 etc day historical vol...

    RE: Trading the Volatility Cycle

Most likely will use risk reward scenario of 3:1 wherein if I can get a profit of .75 will get out else be willing to lose initial investment. One thing that is slowly becoming evident as I put more of these on is that by doing repair strategies, the position gets so convuluted, the pnl...

    RE: Trading the Volatility Cycle

Just put on EK calendar front month ATM against month + 1 for 25 cents. Decent potential given the vol edge. Just watch the IV implosion for Iv is at around 40% percentile. But I figured vol edge of 13% is worth a shot. Also check out BAC time spread ATM

    RE: Trading the Volatility Cycle

I would like to participate and contribute. I too have been doing a good amount of 2-4 lot spreads and have been genrally successful BUT for a few bad spreads which I did not manage. My main "thing" is calendar spreads and 70% of my spreads made / are making $. The problem is the 30% eating up a...

100 % increase in options volume / IB quote

I forgot about posting the trades as I had indicated in my earlier post. I apologize. I will do a better job next time in detailing the position I put on, the PnL , the gamma adjustments, rationale behind the adjustments, etc. Thanks

    Bullets

Hi the _dude the reason why you would normally sell the call to put up a reversal ( or reverse conversion) is to recoup the time value you are paying for the put that you bought as a hedge against your long stock. Ex: you buy IBM is at $92 and the June 100 put was bought for 9, this...

Looking for Option Trading Video or CD tranining reference

You would be better off learning by buying basic option trading books by Mcmillan or Natenburg. It is really hard to discuss the basics of option trading without going through a lot of examples and such does not lend itself to video format. Good luck
