    Who is long Emini?

I put a handful ES on between 1084-1085 right in front of the close. Now I'm looking at it and thinking it was a dumbass thing to do. Thinking about putting on a forex hedge.

    Happy Holidays..... Thanksgiving

The market is certainly wishing everyone a happy thanksgiving... Futures getting whacked on decent holiday session volume...ES testing Friday's lows...down over 1.5%

Does anyone know of any "Sonification" software for market data?

All I can say is I have to watch my IB interface occasionally (couple times a month maybe) when something big happens and the tick volume explodes because it's my eSignal feed that starts to fall behind. The IB data is rock solid in my experience, which covers about the past 9 years.

Tail wagging the dog... dollar or equities?

I think you're missing the point. Perhaps it's my fault. The point of the analogy is not that there are two things that are equally countering each other. Instead, it is to suggest that there is one thing. You can look at it in terms of its "rising risk assets" facet, or you can look...

Does anyone know of any "Sonification" software for market data?

I haven't found anything. Searched all over the place. Talked to some friends. Nothing. I believe IB has an API function that can link to java/activeX/C++ apps. Thinking I may hire a programmer to design a simple app that taps into the IB market feed and outputs in tones or beeps or clicks...

Does anyone use sound inputs of chart data in their trading?

Yeah...in fact, I think it strikes me more and more as such an interesting idea... to effectively widen the "bandwidth" of your necktop-desktop connection, allowing for more simultaneous data to enter your brain (your eyes have to be pointed in a particular direction, exclusively taking in...

Does anyone use sound inputs of chart data in their trading?

For example: Each trade hitting the market makes a sound (“blip”): - trades at the offer sound different than those at the bid (pitch? volume? timbre?), and - And size of the trade affects some other dimension of the sound (pitch? volume? timbre?) - I suppose could even be applied to...

How to research and verify trading ideas

Many well-articulated ideas. Thanks for sharing. Years ago, I reached similar conclusions to yours about designing systems from simple indicator readings. In fact, I spent about 4 years working at systems design. I used to skip sleep between 2-4 nights a week (was bartending for income...

Tail wagging the dog... dollar or equities?

NO. Neither! If you flip a coin, is it the tails side that is moving and causing the heads side to move? or the other way around? The question doesn't even make sense, right? Same thing. In other words, it's a single trade, and it either gets bigger or smaller. And it's real...

Does anyone know of any "Sonification" software for market data?

Can't seem to find anything like this on the market, which honestly surprises me: For example: Each trade hitting the market makes a sound (“blip”): - trades at the offer sound different than those at the bid (pitch? volume? timbre?), and - And size of the trade affects some other...

New guys, now is not the time

I totally feel this thread and the comments by Dustin. And I think the point is something I have come to call "serial correlation". If I am any judge, you trade a similar style to me, except I focus on indexes and sector plays. I've been at it about 10 yrs. And I would say, October 08 thru March...

    Briefing Trader

Please don't make things up on this thread. I understand you had a bad experience with the product. But there are a number of complete falsehoods in the above. We don't con anyone over the phone. Our top traders all made significantly over 200% in 2008. For myself, it was my best trading...

The Most Sure-fire Hedge Fund Possible

ummm? that holds, btw. But by and lage, you guys are taking the idea far too literally. As I said earlier, it's a thought experiment. The point is given by the last line in my original post. But if you truly are of the idea that, as an earlier poster put it, "the opposite of a bad trader...
