    trading charts...

    - tick chart for trading (ie tactical picture) [1] - another tab with some longer timeframe -- 5, 15, 30 or whatever minutes zoomed as appropriate to give me a feel for s/r and the broader trends. (ie strategic picture) [1] Every now and then I suspect volume charts would be helpful...

"Hollywood Stock Exchange" is back (w/real money)

Well.....it's more like "Hollywood Futures Trading Exchange" but you get the idea. I remember the HSX back in the mid-90s and futzed around with it during lunch hours to waste time on the fledgling Intarweb. That said, I'm not sure how this will go over with the "average" or "novice"...

    hedging postions

Check this article out on hedging via inverse ETFs -- using the SDS (ultra-short S&P) in my retirement account helped hedge many positions against the volatility over the past several months. November 25, 2007 How to Protect Your Stock Portfolio From the Spreading Credit Crunch by...

Open e cry data feed has become junk

Never used to ... sometimes on high vol days, but today's been jumpier than usual, and it's nowhere like a fed day in terms of volatility. We'll see.

Open e cry data feed has become junk

688 tick chart -- of course i've been away for a few weeks so maybe i need to get used to it again.

Open e cry data feed has become junk

OK I am noticing OEC ES charts (live side) are more jumpy at times today than they used to be ... not sure if it's just the price action or their data feed, though.

    analyst opinions on Yahoo Finance

Over the past 3 years or so I've come to believe that Wall Street 'analysts' with few exceptions are total idiots who do not "know" the companies or industries they cover. What does a newly-minted MBA know about the telco, pharma, internet, or mining industry? Probably nothing. Have they...

    Charting software for Apple iMac

Not that I know of, unfortunately. I use OEC Trader and other "trading tools" via a WindowsXP virtual machine. Works absolutely perfectly on my iMAC and MacBookPro....and that's the route I would recommend.

Open e cry data feed has become junk

I have not logged into OEC for about 2 weeks due to work and the holiday -- did they change something to cause that data problem?

    CNBC's most revolting personality

+1 Santelli is very good imho.

    CNBC's most revolting personality

Dennis Neale. He comes across as the kid in school who never shared his cupcakes, lorded them over his friends, and had mommy come defend him after getting beat up in the playground. Smug, whiny, and offers NO substance to any conversation I've seen him a part of. In fact, while I dont...

    Highest dividend?

One has to wonder if the only 'safe' dividend play in the current market is to try and collar the position so you can collect the dividend while protecting your downside on the underlying. That's what I did for many of my "high yielders" in my long-term retirement account...which sure made me...

    Highest dividend?

The "highest" or "highest and safest" ?? New Century was yielding like 30% right before subprime happened....and we all know where they landed.

If you want screaming to stop on CNBC, reply here.

That will be revealed in time....it's a tease to keep you watching. :) But yeah, I saw her on Chris Matthews on Sunday morning and was confused - I know they film it early, but I was like "wait - isn't she in Russia"?

If you want screaming to stop on CNBC, reply here.

Because today I'm not trading. Too many distractions going on here to focus on the markets. Hence the penning of an ET tome. :)

If you want screaming to stop on CNBC, reply here.

CNBC is in the business of "newsfotainment" -- it's reality tv for those interested in the business world. IMHO the only person worth listening to on CNBC is Rick Santelli over at the CME. He doesn't hype and is pretty damn unflappable -- and has taken other CNBC folks to task for their...

    OEC trailing stop

I don't know IB's system, but in general, a trailing stop doesn't care or "know" what the market's doing -- if the price moves higher, the stop moves higher and never downward....unless I misunderstood your question? I would assume the moral of the story is in a sideways market to not use a...

    Is OpenEcry down?

ok i came back to my desk and saw the system messages on the live side about their quotes being down, but things are ok at 2246 ET. i have been with OEC since February - while all brokers have quirks now and then, in my experience with OEC, I've not enountered many problems to report with...
