I've never had an account large enough to trade SPs until I started with IB...but they haven't had them. Very interesting.....does the same apply to RL and ER2? What about MD and EMD? That could save me some commissions....I like to leg out of positions....buy one SP then counter with ES...

How does that work? Will your position be cleared overnight and you'd be flat? Doesn't seem possible..... I understand within a small tolerance each of the positions would offset the other one, but are they completely fungible?

I noticed that options sales are not reported in the 1099 gross proceeds number, but from what I understand they do belong on schedule D. So my number will not match the 1099 number from IB. Any idea how to reconcile that?

I've read it was margin calls in March 2000 that dropped the Nasdaq 30% in a few weeks. Not sure since it wasn't my margin calls but it seems reasonable.... Not much you can do in that case....except not get in the position in the first place :eek:

There are many threads about backup ISPs and other kinds of failover you can set up and use. try a search for dual wan router. I've seen it mentioned many times here, having a backup broker and therefore the ability to offset open positions if your connection goes down is a very good idea...
