Debt, interest and velocity of money

if the guy did the productive investment he had to sell it to somebody, i.e. to the bank - and for at least $110 to cover his costs/principal/profit. the loan therefore gets repaid and everybody is happy (and the gdp is up by 10%; and all loans repaid; and martenson f#cked).

    SQL question

ok now i see it. so it is not about rows but rather that you want to see all news articles if and only if a specific author posted more than 1 article in a given time period...from the original post that was not obvious. but then the solution could be much easier then the one above. e.g...

    SQL question

well i clearly do not understand your problem. if there are 2 different people then you do not have identical rows and so on... i guess it is important that you solved your problem (whatever it was). just keep in mind that designing a proper database (indexing, data types, keys, relationship...

    SQL question

my understanding of the original 3 column table was different... but in the case above why not SELECT * FROM @table WHERE Author = @author AND Date = @date? my wonder is why do you want to see 2 exactly the same rows shown twice (instead of - at maximum - been notified of number of...

    SQL question

this is ok - basically creating intermediate view on the fly. note that your request does not make much sense from the dba standpoint... why to show all duplicate rows in the first place? why not just one record for each duplication?...maybe with a counter column added? and that's after...

    Has trading become harder?

trading over the past 2 years is neither easier nor more difficult imo. but it certainly is very different. therefore some traders are now better off - and some go BK. survival of the fittest... p.s edit: in the meantime another poster basically stated the same. obviously one vote option...

    Sincere opinion on Oanda

I was talking about the original example (EUR1MM at 1.30). for simplicity let's ignore comparison of CoC between the two brokers, i.e. ignore difference in costs for EUR and benefits for CHF. otherwise it becomes complex and depends on the exact size of the trade due to "Tier-ing" at IB...

    Sincere opinion on Oanda

that's a BS. holding the position for 10 days costs you USD178 at Oanda while zero at IB. p.s. for the sake of the argument i am ignoring cost of carry of EURCHF position itself which differs between IB and Oanda depending on the size of the trade.

    Sincere opinion on Oanda

no argument on financing costs? so Oanda is not so good after all.....

    Sincere opinion on Oanda

also this assumes that you manage your risk by currency pairs. this is probably fair enough if you trade FX only. but i manage risk by each individual currency exposure - and the only thing that really matters to me is how much of each currency i have at the end of the day...and hedge/trade...

    Sincere opinion on Oanda

lol well you probably still did not get it. if you short EURCHF only then you have a different risk profile. for the same risk profile you would have to close EURUSD as well - again crossing the spread. this is obviously what Oanda will be happy about - giving them again the half of the mark...

    Sincere opinion on Oanda

that's not what i meant. i mean if you are flat one currency you can still get charged the interest. say you are long USD13 vs short EUR10. now you buy CHF13 for USD13. so you are now long CHF13 vs short EUR10. you have zero USD exposure. but still you pay net interest (spread) on USD13 of...

    Sincere opinion on Oanda

ok - i checked IB webpage and see that comms is actually 0.2bps of trade value vs 0.2pips which I thought it was. I have to admit i am surprised to see Oanda cheaper than IB... there is still the problem with no netting of currency exposures and charging interest by pairs - which can add...

    Sincere opinion on Oanda

thanks - was just asking the question again. but i am also confused - does it mean they take only the maintenance margin and the rest is in trust account with STAN? even then is it insured if Oanda goes BK like e.g. Refco?

    Sincere opinion on Oanda

ok you are right - my wrong. so that makes IB exactly equal to Oanda when round turn is considered - at 0.9. still, can somebody answer the question about the security of the deposit?
  17. D

    Sincere opinion on Oanda

    1. yes. (and I do trades occasionally with Oanda too) 2. if you double that then you need to double Oanda's 0.9 too - this is becoming silly.
  18. D

    Sincere opinion on Oanda

not sure i follow. the commission is 0.2 on top of 0.5 spread. in total 0.7. i agree there is a minimum of USD2.5. so if you trade only 62,500 small "lots" the commission is in fact 0.4 making it on par with Oanda. i just do not see if you trade 1MM how you get it cheaper with Oanda. If...

    At what price BP?

atticus i hope i am not making you anxious in the first 10 minutes of trading. you know, it could have a negative impact on your trading and you might not beat unemployment benefits benchmark :)

    Sincere opinion on Oanda

wrong. the point is you are new here so nobody can check your intentions while i am not - you can check my posting history with respect to IB issues (you may be surprised by what you find :p )
