Thanks, Cache. A lot of good meat here. Currently all my positions are bear calls that I entered at the last peak. This will be my first summer trading SPX/OEX/XEO, so I'm taking things very cautiously. I appreciate you taking the time to give a detailed response. Crucis

Cache, do you usually look about 45 days forward? I usually work with a 30 day view, less credit that way, but the overall risk is less. Is your risk management different with 45 days vs. 30 days?

OX also allows futures trading. I believe they require a minimum of $25K account balance for futures trading. There is a link on the OX homepage. http://www.optionsxpress.com

Made my first Aug trade. XEO 600/605C @ $1.10 credit. 52 week high is 604 so, I'll have to monitor it closely as expiration nears. My plan is to close if XEO gets to 595 or if enough decay occurs to give 75% total profit.

Totally agree. Unfortunately, I can't pull my accounts while I'm still employed with current employer. I've a few smaller accounts elsewhere that I'm using to learn to trade in preparation when I can get my hands on the funds without ruininous penalties.

You're absolutely right! I sat out in cash since the May expiration until late yesterday when I placed a bid on a bear call. Waiting was a strain! I felt like I needed to just do SOMETHING! Didn't though. :D

Should you chase options to get filled?

The price oscillates during the day. Why chase an option when if you wait, the price can come back to you. WHen I first started trading, I'd chase a price. No more. Good way to lose money buying more than you need.

If you look at just the last five days, we're in a sideways channel between 1239/40 and 1255. I'm not totally bearish on the break. If the sideway channel continues and we have a neutral or positive FOMC report, it could break upward.

I was surprised too, to see Sprint on the list. No, Sprint hasn't ever been bankrupt. They did have a near merger with MCI in 2000 that didn't go through. Sprint merged last year with Nextel and spun off Embarq last month. Embarq was created from Sprint's local division which is similar in...
