    Bitcoin Price Thread

Will be waiting for the day when half of those 90% early miners (including Satoshi) come cashing out. That's when the real crash will come.

    Bitcoin Price Thread

I always see something like this on coindesk. Bitcoin Market Cap $0.123T. Even AAPL still reads something like 900bill on normal finance sites. I wonder how many people and entities are involved in the pump.

Study: how long does it usually take for a 10%+ “small correction” to make new highs

I think you are defining a "small correction" after the fact. Not useful if you want to buy on the correction. Using the SPY as example, the "small 10% correction" of Mar - Apr 2000 took till June 2006 to come back to new highs. That of Oct - Nov 2007 dragged us thru the financial crisis and...

    Jump Vol before Earnings

To me jump+vol day after should be almost jump. So you are looking for jump right after earnings (like after hours or at market open?). To me it should be hardly different from jump to close of trading on the day following the release - probably about 90% of the later. When they mention implied...

    Jump Vol before Earnings

Looks like the calculation already implies daily volatilities (the sigma, seeing how T and T-1 are used as multipliers), so the jump volatility calculated is for the one-day. If that is the case, you do not need to multiply by sqrt(1/252).

How was ET back in 2008?

Now I feel old, realizing 2008 is ten years ago. Below is my journal for that year (Taking 103K to 1.2 million by year end 2008: https://www.elitetrader.com/et/threads/taking-103k-to-1-2million-by-year-end-2008.114087/ The volatility that year was good to me.

Bitcoin miners facing a shakeout as profitability becomes harder

Just curious what the cost of electricity per coin was 6 years ago when one bitcoin sold for less than a dollar. So the cost of electricity must have basically shot up in tandem with the price of the coin. How is this not a ponzi. We know the algorithm will become even harder to use (mine :) )...

    2014: The Battle for Survival

I trade stocks and stock options. About 70% of my option positions are intra-day (not held overnight) - but the opportunities are like one such trade every 3 or 4 days: yes I am picky. You can't be very active in the intra-day time frame, as the costs can quickly add up.

No monthly updates. Don't want to get back there, and get jinxed (account goes below once again). Besides there isn't much motivation to do that.

    2014: The Battle for Survival

Period Update 12/30/2017 - 03/31/2018 ---------- Good three months (+73.6K, +42%). One big down month, Jan, followed by two strong months of Feb/March. Jan was shaping up to be a negative month, but made some final blunders that accounted for the big negative. Missed out on much of the upside...

    Bitcoin Price Thread

One day to expiration. Stock now < 8$. so the put should be a gain of 50% as indicated then. Still too small for the time. Obviously with benefit of hindsight, selling deep itm calls would have been better - although money still tied down.

    Stocks with an infinite valuation?

Simple, every outsized growth rate eventually comes to an end. Ask GE, GM, Walmart, Msft. At some point in the past, those were the place to be in growth names. But now no more. Trying to predict when that will happen is what makes it interesting.

We need big losses from time to time, to rethink the strategy and improve it?

Same goes for those saying BIG DEAL without knowing the whole story. But seriously it is no big deal if he is making 50% or more per year. You would think he was saying 50% loss a day here. I make 5% loss a day more than 4 times a year. No, my account hasn't blown up in more than 10 years

We need big losses from time to time, to rethink the strategy and improve it?

If you're making > 50% a year, its perfectly OK to have 5% loss a day/four times a year - hope that makes you feel better :)

Any tips for closing out near-worthless short positions below $0.05?

Yes, I mean by the time you are up 80-90%, I believe those were worth more than $0.05. In any case, if it happened fast enough, and you see bid 0.00 ask 0.05, yes exit at the ask. It is still small change compared to tying up your capital. What you are giving up (from your opinion of fair value...

Any tips for closing out near-worthless short positions below $0.05?

Basically if your short option has returned 80%-90%, there is probably not much R:R holding for longer, given the margin requirement as you mentioned. Take it and move elsewhere. It is a mistake to consider those low-price options as slam-dunk worth 0. They are not. In the recent stock...
