    Trader P/L 2007

How many standard deviations is this from the mean? Outliers obviously happen far more frequently than the theorists will have us believe.

What % of traders really make money?

What % of Traders are profitable? The answer depends on certain assumptions about (1) Who is a trader? (2) how long a time frame you are looking at, and (3) how much profit is profitable. I shall assume the following: Who is a trader? Anybody that closes a position in his own account...

    I broke my record today!

I guess it's pretty obvious how he did it. Looking at the stocks, and what he posted in another thread, it's obvious he buy's stocks that are moving up most in the morning (10am-11am) - perhaps with some filtering criteria, takes them to the end of day if he is making a profit, and stopping out...

Taking 76K to 500K by Year End

That performance is commendable. Of course a 30% drawdown is normal with such a strategy. I hope you are not staking it all in one option. This is a really strong-trending market. Buying anything on the upward move in the morning almost always leads to bigger gains by close of market. Like all...

Taking 76K to 500K by Year End

It depends on the time to expiration and my expected holding duration. I normally aim for the nearest out-of-money strike price. But if it is too far away, or the stock is expiring in a few days, I may go just for the in-the-money option. This reduces rate of deterioration of your premium.

Taking 76K to 500K by Year End

Weekly Update for week 19 ended 07/06/2007 Another OK week. Able to make some money through options once again on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Lost 3K on Friday to give me a net of 10K for the week. I am glad AUTOTRADE2 has picked its first three trades and made 3K. AUTOTRADE1 has another...

Blog - Road to $1million Trading Options

The blog site he gave at the beginning of the thread is : http://theoptionsreport.wordpress.com/ and not http://theoptionsreport.com/ that you quoted. They appear to be different results. In any case he has no update on his site since May 21.

Taking 76K to 500K by Year End

Below is the summary of my results by trading strategy. The discretionary long stock has been the massive underperformer, led by the huge loss on ICFI of 47K in week 12. The major problem in those big losers have been the tendency to average in on losses. These results exclude margin interest...

Taking 76K to 500K by Year End

BLB, Thanks for taking the time to chart the equity curve. I think the reduction in volatility could be attributed to these facts: 1) I have reduced my tendency to take on bigger sizes, averaging in on losing positions. 2) I have committed more buying power to my automated strategies...

Taking 76K to 500K by Year End

Yeah it is not possible to make good money without risk. Anybody that does not have any tolerance for risk would pack his money in CD, where it makes 3% per annum with certainty that every week his account should go up by 0.06%. But of course you need to take measured risk and not throw away...

Taking 76K to 500K by Year End

Weekly Update for week 18 ended 06/29/2007 This week seems to be an options week. Just couldn't turn off my eyes from the possibilities in major stocks on the move. The week began on a sad note when I realized the loss on the MS 90 CALLS bought last week after their earnings, losing 6K. Then...

Taking 76K to 500K by Year End

Weekly Update for week 17 ended 06/22/2007 Another slow week. Glad I made some gains. Lost 4K in my automated method (AUTOTRADE1), while the discretionary trades made up for the loss and got another 5K. The new automated strategies AUTOTRADE2, AUTOTRADE3 are yet to pick a trade! Still...

How to never get an account wiped out?

Gosh! These are really extreme moves. I guess your average has come down below 0.5%. Not really much to show for that volatility. I believe you must have done some backtesting before starting with this strategy? Was the expected compounded average as high as 3.0% per day which you are aiming at...

Taking 76K to 500K by Year End

I do my own programming using native programming languages like Java and VB, and use the APIs to link to the brokers (TWS API for IB and QuoteTracker API for Ameritrade). My back-testing (for strategies that can be back-tested) is done by gathering the requisite data in my Oracle database and...

I just couldn't refrain from thinking of the possibilities in exploiting the above edge using options. Like someone has mentioned, it is unrealistic to have that type of edge for short durations like intra-day trades. I find that on the average intra-day trade the underlying stock moves in my...

Taking 76K to 500K by Year End

Weekly Update for week 16 ended 06/15/2007 This week was mostly spent out of the markets as I was busy following the birth of our baby daughter. Made only 2 discretionary trades for a 1K loss, and 8 automated trades for a gain of 3.6K. I have started doing pilot test for a third automated...

Preparing for a Life After Daytrading

Were you successful as a daytrader? If so, why not try and automate what you were doing. Let the computer do the "dirty job" of sitting in front of the screen all day, watching for your set-ups to appear, and taking the action to place your orders? This way you could pursue your ideal real job...

How to never get an account wiped out?

If your system will be anything near as good in real-life why not commit real money to trade this, and let's watch your success, with real account balances and profit figures?

Can you believe, someone published my trading system, SO ANGRY

If your strategy really works, it is not going to die immediately because someone else published it. As others have said, the market is so vast, and people too fickle, that a single strategy will not draw up enough followership in the short term to neutralize it. Even if it does eventually work...
