    USD vs CAD for Canadians

For an average account I wouldn't bother with futures since each contract is $100K. Using FX you can get down to sub-dollar granularity. Since the FX market is so liquid there is no issue trading odd lots ($25K is the standard on IB).

    USD vs CAD for Canadians

Hedging makes sense if you want your portfolio to be consistent in one currency (say CAD) but you're holding both CAD and USD investments. For example, if you have $100K (CAD) in US stocks you can sell $100K (CAD) USD.CAD and now you're flat USD. I use IB to do this. Very easy and cheap. On IB...

Nasdaq seeks mandatory rule on board diversity for companies

This is a load of subjective BS. Where do you draw the line? Are the companies going to have to have a representative of every minority group and how do you define that? Just another way of fulfilling the "equality of outcome" agenda. Nasdaq should spend some time and money updating their...

    Stock filter/screener

ThinkOrSwim has a very good scanner. On the scan tab add the following filters: 1) Market cap max 500M 2) Price_change study: CLOSE is at least 20% greater than 252 days ago

Can Market On Close stock order really get a partial fill?

In my experience I've gotten good (proper) fills using MOO and MOC orders and will continue to use them. As a retail trader it's a very good tool.....if there's ways to improve on it I'm all ears. I agree with the whole keep-it-simple mantra.....in general the less complicated the better.

Can Market On Close stock order really get a partial fill?

According to Nasdaq documentation they don't guarantee that an MOC order will get filled in the closing cross so it's entirely possible that you would get a partial fill. If you're placing a lot of these orders eventually you'll get one that only partially fills.

Very safe place to park some cash

Holding a bond portfolio (50% IEF, 50% SHY) over the last 18 years produced an annual return of about 3.7% (including dividends) and a maximum drawdown of about 6%. Low cost, zero maintenance and regular dividends.

    Adjusted close and open price

You can calculate the adjusted open using the following formula: AdjO = Open * (AdjC / Close) I use adjusted data in my backtesting since it gives you a true idea of returns by including dividends. It also removes gaps due to splits, special dividends, etc.

Out-of-sample trading strategy with neural networks

What kind of time frame are you talking about? From the research I've done into machine learning, neural networks, etc. it may be possible to come up with a strategy that predicts 1 or 2 days out and has a positive expectancy and acceptable drawdown.

    Market regime filter

It depends on the strategy. I do use a filter similar to this in one of my strategies and it works well. Overall growth is sacrificed a little bit but you'll be thankful once you trade through a scenario like 2008 and see the losses that were avoided. It's those difficult periods that take an...

Convert currency at the current market rate

As long as IB is available in your country (Finland?) it's just a matter of submitting the application then verifying your bank accounts. This may take a couple of weeks since IB needs to do their due diligence related to source of funds, etc.

Convert currency at the current market rate

This is easy to do at Interactive Brokers. You can do an FX conversion directly using the forex pair at the current exchange rate paying a very small commission (it costs me about $2 to do this). Of course you need an IB account and you will need bank accounts in both USD and EUR if you want the...

Automate codes developed in python to run into a platform developed in c++

Check out this link on StackOverflow: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/13327280/creating-dll-from-a-python-file/13327324 Basically you can create a dynamic link library (DLL) from Python and then call this DLL from your C++ application. If Takion supports DLLs this should work.

    Stealth Wealth

Personally I would quit the job I hate to do something intellectually stimulating that I enjoy. It's not worth it to stick around. If your family/friends all of a sudden are judgmental about your newfound wealth or are acting petty about the whole thing it's not your problem.....it's theirs...

    Trades out of hours

Without testing your hypothesis you won't know. "Thinking" something may or may not happen is a surefire way to go broke. You have to decide if you're going to trade based on EOD data or not, i.e. you need to come up with some rules to guide your decisions. In my experience the only way to come...
