Slippage for market on open order?

In general a market order will be filled in its entirety. This is not guaranteed but if you are placing an order that is a fraction of the overall opening volume the likelihood this will be filled is very good. For example I recently had an MOO order on LRCX. Opening volume was more than 20K...

Slippage for market on open order?

Yes, the simulation is not accurate. Why? Because for a true auction you need buyers and sellers to reach a fair price. Anyway, I've done hundreds of MOO orders and in general I get filled right at the opening price. Some are slightly better, some are slightly worse. Overall the slippage is...

Can you beat the S&P500 index in the long run?

I did some quick analysis to see how a buy and hold portfolio would have performed assuming cash was added on a regular basis. I assumed that $10K was added to the Nasdaq 100 (NDX) on the worst possible day in the last 21 years (which was March 28, 2000). On this day the NDX peaked and...

Is it still rolling out if you change strike prices?

You are changing your position size if you change the quantity. Net result will be that you are rolling some of the contracts and letting some of them expire ITM (you'll get assigned on expiring ones). Also note that there is basically zero premium in the higher strike options. For example, the...

Weird picture, usually volume occurs at turning points

Is this Chicago time? On my chart the inflection point happens at 4:35pm (after hours) hence the lack of volume.

    Not a fan of crypto…but

I've made money on HIVE but it's not for the faint-hearted. If you're okay with volatility then it might be worth it. If not then I would stay away.

Can you have a cash secured put AND a covered call on the same stock at the same time?

Since you are long stock and have a naked put you effectively have double the exposure. So yes you are going to require about double the buying power effect to hold this position. The short call doesn't really affect this other than you're getting a little bit of income that increases your...

Consistency or one time large profit?

Running multiple portfolios / strategies works well in my experience and also based on analysis and backtesting. Especially if the strategies are loosely-correlated or uncorrelated. You may want to consider running a speculative aggressive strategy alongside your get rich slow strategy. If...

    New to Options

You need to educate yourself a little more in terms of how this really works and the risk involved..... You definitely don't want to "delete the 100 shares". This would leave you with an uncovered (naked) short call which is highly risky. Since you have 400 shares you can sell to open 4 calls...

Foreign Financial Transaction Tax deductibility from US taxes

From a general tax perspective (not US specific), the FTT will increase the cost basis of the transaction. So when you sell the shares the overall gain will be decreased by the FTT amount and you will be paying less capital gains tax. I'm interested to find out if the FTT is charged to...

class action litigation/lawsuit on stocks that went bankrupt or drop alot...

I've filed these in the past and have gotten money back. I can't remember the amounts so obviously it wasn't noteworthy. If you have good records you can fill out the paperwork quickly and then mail it off for $10. If I can do it quickly I figure why not.

    thinkorswim in Canada

Thinkorswim is available in Canada, I've been using it for quite a few years. I must be grandfathered in.....my commissions are $5 per trade. Not great but I use the platform more for its charting capabilities as it's about a million times better than IB.
