Can Day Traders make a good living.

Don't think it doesn't happen. I was long a LOT of MSFT one day, when CNBC goes to a news flash....there's Janet Reno announcing the opening of anti-trust proceedings against Microsoft. Stock dropped 10 pts. in about a second...(this was at lunchtime when I was usually flat) I couldn't even...

Can Day Traders make a good living.

Yes, and that was on an "exceptional day for anybody"....to AVERAGE over 1% a day? I guess my mistake has been NOT to trade part time. I figure if I traded 5 days a year, instead of 200+, maybe I could have had an average like that. One very lucky super day...maybe an upgrade, takeover...

Large orders half hour before close

market imbalances are reported publicly at 3:40 on exchanges. nasdaq, not being an exchange, has no imbalances. I believe it is just the pattern of volume coming in.....3:30 way too early to be "painting the tape" (if that really goes on:-).

    stock trading: monthly return

Darkhorse... Just trying to explain that on the floor, the rules are different. As I said, most people don't understand the constraints of the floor traders. We get "margin"...they get "haircut". We pay commisions. They pay membership fees. They get more "leverage" because they are assumed to...

    stock trading: monthly return

Darkhorse....i agree with what you say here. I agree with pretty much everything you have said that I have read on this site. So assuming that you are as well informed as I believe, then this comment is meant for those less informed. What you say about trading 30-50 times (leverage) is...

    Hmmm...what foresight:)

    stock trading: monthly return

Well said....my point exactly. Fortunately buying power seldom was a factor for us recently. Not because it was unlimited, just because there were less irresistable positions. So trading lightly allowed longer holds on winners. When I used to hold 40 or so positions, in all honesty my p&l was my...

Dear Mr/Mrs. Nasdaq....Can you go up now?!

Dear Mr/Mrs. Nasdaq....Can you go up now?!

OK guys....it is obvious that the concensus here is that the Nasdaq will continue to go down, or at least not go up. Not one to be a contrarian, I have to go along with the majority. But being into fundamentals, let me explain WHY the nasdaq is and will be weak forever. As we know, it is heavily...

    my chances?

Not a bad idea...I have read the book more than once. It is, however, quite dated. When old Jesse traded, the rules were a lot different (non existent?). But certainly worth reading. NOT however, the equal to Herbert Yardley's "Education of a Poker Player". Also a bit dated, but poker hasn't...

    stock trading: monthly return

I agree for the most part...however....I have always believed that just as you should have a reason to get INTO a trade, you should have a reason to close the trade. Now for some people it is a profit (or loss) target. For some, it is perhaps time, whatever. But IMHO, if there is no reason to...

    stock trading: monthly return

Let me clarify.....we WERE NOT going for pennies. Personally, my average gains and losses were closer to about a dollar. Better months, less losers, better gains, etc. But at the end of the day (month really), the totals ended up being as stated. This included some home runs and some disasters...

    stock trading: monthly return

Working with a large firm.....over 1000 traders....I can tell you that in equities trading, the very best traders averaged about 11 cents per trade when the market was trending.(Sure, there was a period we were doing better than 50 + cents, but that was an abberation. Just buy Amazon and Yahoo...

    Sleepless Nights

This seems to be less a "thread" than a monologue. I will say, however, that I have been trading for the "gaps" as well as daytrading for over 15 years. And almost exclusively overnighting for the past 6 years. When it works, it is great. I made a lot of money when it did. I also gave back a...

Schonfeld Sec. bad moon rising ???

What makes you think this is the case? I find it difficult to believe that the managers can make this call when they have so little say in just about any other decisions!?!
