    movie "A Serious Man"

Well I was thinking in relation to dealing with events out of your control. Ok, tenuous at best. I couldn't help thinking about Jack Hershey and The Mentaculus. At the end of the movie, I felt like the perspective shift made me think about risk differently. It just felt significant.

    Weinstein Trading and Fading

As a regular in Bob's chat room, I think it was always about having a good group of folks exchanging ideas. I don't think Bob is after admiration - if anything I think his journal and chat room are probably to help with keeping track and not trading in a vacuum. I believe that a chat room of...

    Living the Dream Journal

Speaking from my experience losing money: you may be tempted to think that you can just ramp up how serious you are in response to losses. It doesn't work that way. I think it's better if you take a reality check and realize how important the $2k+ you've lost is.

    Weinstein Trading and Fading

I think that was me. My point is that, when it's an EPE (elephant poop event), it is usually one stock/opportunity. I think a max loss per signal is a good idea, and a max loss per day isn't necessarily a bad idea.

what is the easiest language for automation?

I think tradelink fills a good niche but can't be a 100% solution for a non-programmer to develop a strategy in their own lab. As a programmer, I like being able to see the whole of the code and make tweaks as needed. As anyone working on systems knows, there is a lot of changing/testing of...

    High frequency trading strategies

I think you're right that there are other angles. But the basic academic approach comes down to inventory management and modeling how the tape influences fair prices. If a market maker is bidding and offering constantly, they will begin to build a larger position long or short depending on...

Stock Tax May Reduce Volume 90%, Interactive Brokers CEO Says

You'd still have funds/portfolio managers and the public adjusting their positions periodically. If you are trading intraday a lot using market orders, it's a big hurdle that likely wouldn't be overcome. I think the GETCO's and Tradebot's of the world would just be changing a few lines of...

Unique situation to give full time trading a shot

Well, I think the guy who said to get an MBA/CFA while doing it is right. At least, find some way that you will be making life progress regardless of the P/L swings.

I think a max-loss could help but it also might significantly limit the opportunities taken. I think Robert trades solely on a set of signals he has developed - so it might make sense to set a threshold in terms of P/L or perhaps timeframe, which may be different for different signals, beyond...

So I spent 5.5 k on new system, only to have my old system back (beyond mad)

Mikasa I think this is a misunderstanding about what Win 7 memory usage means. Look into "superfetch". http://www.osnews.com/story/21471/SuperFetch_How_it_Works_Myths Don't think of it as Win 7 is wasting memory, it's putting useful stuff there so you can get it faster. When other programs...

ECN locations, where orders get matched

Let's say I'm routing orders to ARCA and I want to quickly (automatically) cancel/submit orders. I'm using Sterling and the clearing is done by PAX in Chicago. Does my order get matched in Chicago or is there a central ARCA server in NYC or NJ that orders are going to? If the latter, how...

    MarketMaker techniques

Hey Tokyo, I am trying to figure out some of the standard MM algorithms. There are a few academic papers on Google Scholar and I've started reading Empirical Market Microstructure by Hasbrouck. I realize what's done in practice is likely much more advanced - but I want to understand the...

    Genesis Data Feed API.

I'm not to the point where I want to engage a place like Genesis to talk price - but if someone could PM me a ballpark estimates for their colo service I'd appreciate it. I read somewhere that a bare rack near ECNs is about $3500/mo. So, thinking naively, you could fit a bunch of boxes(40?)...
