    IB's interface easy to use?

From what I hear IB is not bad, but I would agree with MTE you should also check out thinkorswim, you can download their software from their site and see if you like it. I don't know what their minimums are as far as your financials but you can do spreads in your regular account or IRA if you...

    Portfolio Margin at ThinkorSwim

This is not about PM, but I have to say again that I like thinkorswim. I saw a problem with another client's order today (you can see other spread orders in their platform) and I let them know. They took care of it, and called me to let me know what the problem was. With retail, I have traded...

Advice on Trading options as a career

"i am transitioning from a buy a call / buy a put mentality" If you have made money by just buying calls or puts on select securities then you are not really an option trader, you are merely betting on a stock going one way or the other and using options to leverage your money. Ditto to...

    How to use Theo Value?

The theoretical value of an option is merely the output of a mathematical formula, of which there are several. In order to use one of these formulae you have to input several stochastic variables, and therefore there is no such thing as an absolute theoretical value. It is just an estimate...

    Managing Funds for a Living

p.s., Is English your primary language? I am just curious because most of your posts ramble on in a rather incoherent and grammatically incorrect manner. Cache is trying to help you, and although he doesn't do it in the nicest way, atticus was helping you too. So there are people on this...

    Portfolio Margin at ThinkorSwim

I emailed TOS with a few questions, here are the answers: Q: When will you offer time and sales? A: Later this summer Q: When will you have electronic futures options? A: Sometime this summer Q: Any plans to offer bond or oil futures? A: We are considering offering bonds, but no...

    Portfolio Margin at ThinkorSwim

I have my own analysis software and I have not watched the tutorial, but with that said I see all the controls on my Analyze tab. Are you on the "Risk Profile" tab in the middle of the Analyze page? If so there is a way to plot extra +/- vol % lines or date lines at the top; the date change is...

    Portfolio Margin at ThinkorSwim

I am anxious to see how it works out too. "When" is good question for a lot of things, arl. When will they have DOM, automatic stop order placement, time and sales, options on futures, etc. I think they are a good company I just wish they offered more.

    Portfolio Margin at ThinkorSwim

Yes, you can put in different hypotheticals for trades, vols, dates, etc. Then you set the % risk move where you want it and it gives you your risk graph. You can download the fully functioning software from their website and test it out.

    Portfolio Margin at ThinkorSwim

The analyze tab in the TOS software is the best tool to see what your PM requirements will be if you don't have your own option analysis software. I am told that they will be up and running with PM very soon, hopefully in a week or so. A simple example is a naked sell. Under reg-t selling...

    Portfolio Margin at ThinkorSwim

Wow, no one be me? Either you guys aren't using TOS, which seems a little surprising since they are one of the best retail firms for options, or you don't have 100k+. Interesting either way. If any of you are considering it let me know your questions, I may be able to answer them.

    ES Journal Archive (2006 - 2008)

The 10 year could not get below 5.2%, now we have gone below, retested 5.2 and gone lower so that is fuel for the bulls. Normally these would be irrelevant moves but right now everyone is keying off the bonds.

    ES Journal Archive (2006 - 2008)

With regard to SPX options: "They" usually do a better job of marking the SPX on quarterly expiration near an important strike. Definitely not a lock but it happens enough that you want to pay attention. The only two strikes with significant numbers are the June 1500 strike (about 1515 on...

    Portfolio Margin at ThinkorSwim

Just curious, anyone else applying for Portfolio Margin at Think or Swim? The "test" you have to take is archaic but I guess they figure they have to check that you know something. So far they seem like they are going to be reasonable and pretty much stick to the exchange minimum margins...

    ECHOTrade

Timcar, You are answering your own question. Different traders deposit vastly different amounts, have vastly different experience levels, and have vastly different strategies. This explains why there are some differences in the leverage. Leverage is not just a double edge sword, it is more...

What am I missing? Need help from option savvy ETs.

I did not mean an experienced professional option trader with a firm that gives good interest rates couldn't do it; I was referring to him, an assumed average retail trader with poor interest rates. If he doesn't even know what a conversion is, it is unlikely he is prepared to successfully...

What am I missing? Need help from option savvy ETs.

Mvic, You will never be able to put on a conversion or reversal for anything but a net loss. You are not correctly figuring interest carrying cost. The PM requirement for this trade is the minimum $3750 but this is your haircut, you still have to pay margin interest on the long stock which...
