Echo was started by Rob and Jeff and they competed with Van Buren. The two merged in 2002.

    Short the VIX

There are no options on the cash index, and it's not really a cash index, it is basically a theoretical value to give people an approximation of the expected 30 day IV in the SPX options. The options you are quoting are for the August VIX futures contract which, as I said, is trading 20.17...

    Short the VIX

This is not really correct. There are two separate and distinct items when referring to the VIX. You can trade VIX futures and the options based on them, but this is not the cash VIX index that everyone quotes. There are, of course, related but they are not the same and should not be traded...

    ES Journal Archive (2006 - 2008)

Off by 5 min and .75, but we'll give it to you. Nice call.

Nice calls APEX. You read that and think, hey a 40 point rally is pretty big, then you realize that is about where we were 12 hours ago.

I think we are all square anyway, but I am interested in what they say when WeeWilly calls them. Please let us know.

I can't disagree with that, but the test is pretty stupid and it does not go into anything related to how your PM Haircut will be calculated vs. reg-T which is the most important part. Daytrader1540 is set now, but I am really worried about you RichardRimes. This test is not hard, I give you...

    Portfolio Margin at ThinkorSwim

TOS is very good for a retail broker. I just want to make sure you understand the leverage provided by Portfolio Margin. It can be extremely dangerous if you don't know what you are getting into. Your margin will be calculated in a very arcane way by the OCC and it can change dramatically...

    Portfolio Margin at ThinkorSwim

Uh not really sure that is appropriate. You have never posted before. Mind if I ask who you are, generally speaking: how much $, experience, knowledge of the OCC's TIMS haircut system, etc?

There are no extra charges for PM, the 37.50 is a minimum Haircut requirement if you have an essentially risk free position like a conversion.

    Which market moves most violently?

I was thinking the same thing. The odd posting times, questions instead of information, etc. I guess we will just have to wait for the post that options, in and of themselves, are not zero sum and how selling has an inherent edge.

This should be fun. RPT, you might want to check out atticus' ROI and bench press numbers before you mouth off.

    Monthly Income Generated

Have you read the suggested books, Natenberg, McMillan, etc? Have you charted the implied vs historical volatilities to see if there are better times to sell? What is your risk management, how will you get out of losing trades, how will you hedge, roll, or adjust them? These are all questions...

    Monthly Income Generated

If anyone answers this obviously loaded question you will no doubt receive answers that consistently writing options will eventually ruin your account. They will use trite sayings like why pick up pennies in front of a steamroller etc. From your previous posts you are new to this so I would...

Differences between retail and professional options trading?

As a "novice" you need to learn options on your own or get a low level job with a firm that will help you learn before you start trading. It can take years to become a competent option trader. In my opinion, you are talking about two different types of professionals. Those working for major...
