options . . . very hard to make money

I don't care how good he is. I want him to explain just how his friend made a fortune shorting vega and gamma when the rest of us just eke out small profits (or blow up) doing that.

    Good alternative to IB?

Well I have TWS memory set to 1024M, which should be enough. As I said, I think it's probably a hardware issue so I'm going to try swapping in some new stuff.

options . . . very hard to make money

You get that $35 profit only of SPY is below 70 on the December expiration. SPY is just above 110 now so I wouldn't call that a forgone conclusion. You'll make money only if SPY is below 105, and I wouldn't call that a forgone conclusion either. Your position is synthetically equivalent to...

options . . . very hard to make money

You'd have to sell a heck of a lot of premium to make 3300% in two years. When you sell an option short you must either set a substantial amount of money aside as margin or must hedge, which for most trades still requires some margin, and reduces your profits. It's not as though you can just...

    No Gold In Ft. Knox?

I guess they're busy eating pieces of paper with green ink on them.

    Good alternative to IB?

I am going to investigate the possibility that there is something wrong with the video card that is causing the freeze ups. Given that other people with similar configurations aren't having the problems I am this seems like the most likely cause of the problem.

    Trading Lessons/Insights From Coin Flipping

Well, now you're changing the game. Are the two random numbers always distinct?

    Trading Lessons/Insights From Coin Flipping

Sure. I'll always pick 2 and then randomly and with equal probability select either 1 or 3. I always show you 2. Obviously you can be right only half the time. So my expected return per bet is $1.

Immigrants Don't Take Jobs From Americans, Fed Study Says

The next paper from the Fed will prove the existence of the tooth fairy, who will save us from our indebtedness if we put enough teeth under our pillows.

    Good alternative to IB?

Read what I wrote. XP x64 is not capped to 4 Gb. TWS freezes up with every version of Java I've tried.

Oil Should Be Around $10 a Barrel: Analyst

Correct on all points. But remember the rule of the mob: If you don't like current prices, blame the speculators. Even if half of them are short.

    Good alternative to IB?

The crashes occur on an 8 Gb Windows XP-x64 machine with nothing else running. TWS is most emphatically the issue. It freezes up all the time, and I have to kill it with the Windows Task Manager.

    OEX weekly options

Long calendar spreads (long the long dated option, short the short dated option) don't require margin. Of course they only make money if the underlying doesn't move too much.

    No Gold In Ft. Knox?

Seeing gold bars in Fort Knox (assuming they aren't gold plated tungsten http://agmetalminer.com/2009/12/03/fake-gold-bars-discovered-in-hk-lbma-approved-vaults/) is not the same thing as knowing who owns them. That's something a proper audit should find out. When a large quantity of gold is...

    Option Warrior

That's really weird. It's like a web site that came out of mad scientist's bioengineering lab.

    Good alternative to IB?

I like the low commissions with IB and I don't need hand holding. But the fact that TWS crashes within 10 minutes of starting it *every time* and the fact that IB apparently has no fix for this is forcing me to look for another broker. Does anybody have recommendations for a low cost...

    Advantages of Homelessness

Until you realize that you are just renting it from the government. And the government can and does raise the "rent" any time it wants.

Market microstructure and option pricing mechanics

I have noticed the same phenomenon myself. An option will have a bid of 0.80 and an ask of 0.90. I put in a limit order to buy 6 contracts at at 0.85. Immediately I see the bid go to 0.85 with a bid size of 6 (that's me). A few seconds later the bid size goes up to 50 or whatever with the...

Gold - on cusp of massive bearmarket :)

I've held some gold for a long time. (It would have to halve in price before I started to lose any money.) I sure wish people like deadbroke could talk gold down to some more reasonable price, like, say, $800 an ounce, so I can buy some more. But working against deadbroke are the Federal...

Poll: Do you fill out the Schedule D (taxes) honestly?

How about the choice: Yes, I fill it out honestly and will be rolling over 3K in losses each year for the rest of my life.
