IB TWS sucks for Options trading

Now IBsoft: Please fix the implied cash problem. Why would you want me to pay someone 50k a year for a system when I can be paying you that or more in commissions?!

IB TWS sucks for Options trading

Yeh, been punting vol for the last 10 years on the buy and sell side across the world. I also think IB is not too bad. It's the only one around that provides a decent platform and access to international markets. Timber Hill has great technology. But I am not really playing that game. As long as...

IB TWS sucks for Options trading

Not a lot of risk free ways to make money anymore in options. Even the market makers are basically taking short term vol bets these days. Trading option is just like trading stocks now. It all comes down to who's got the fastest connection and the lowest execution cost. Its' great for price...

IB TWS sucks for Options trading

Actually part of my day job was prop trading and supervising a small mkt making operation. We used orc liquidator and still had a hard time competing with the big boyz. The last 5 years was pretty good for prop trading, but volume has dried up on the exchange, so hard to make money providing...

    Dividend capture with covered calls

You need to re-read Sheldon Natenberg. All these simple arbitrages disappeared in the 90's or maybe the 80's....

IB TWS sucks for Options trading

Building a spreadsheet to watch the market/vol surface is fairly simple. The problem is to be able to see the quotes and fire off the orders in real time. Unfortunately I am not a real programmer, so I wont be able to build anything robust in java. The excel api provided by IB is pretty...

IB TWS sucks for Options trading

For example: 1) If I trade any index options against futures hedge, TWS can not price options off implied cash (future-basis). So the implied vol numbers you are getting (off the underlying cash index) is not correct. 2) TWS doesn't automatically populate Interest Rate into the pricing...

IB TWS sucks for Options trading

I am not a market maker, mostly just click and trade. TWS volatility trader is useless. Why would you place volatility orders when you can not even calculate the implied vols correctly. But I suspect they don't really want professional options traders to compete directly with TimberHill. It's a...

IB TWS sucks for Options trading

Orc trader is that much now? It was 2 or 3k when i was using it a few years ago. I just need a front end derivatives app that plugs into IB and uses their infrastructure. Its impossible to manage a proper options book with multiple underlyers using TWS. Their greeks calculations are all suspect...

IB TWS sucks for Options trading

Thanks. But I am trying to stay with IB. Just wondering if anyone has an off the shelf solution, something similar to Orc trader etc.

IB TWS sucks for Options trading

Does anyone use TWS for trading and managing options positions? It is so antiquated. There's no way to feed a live rate curve or div curve. Can not even use implied cash to value options! Is there a good third party solution to this? I would hate to spend a lot of time programming something up...

    IB's "IBIS"

Is there a way to click trade on the IBIS watch list? How do I enable it if it's possible? Also is there a search function for the streaming news?

anyone trading the US stocks market from tokyo?

There aren't many english brokers here. You are better off using IB. IB is not the greatest but it is one of the cheapest and has the most market access out there. Either way it wouldn't be easy to trade any high frequency strategies out of tokyo, unless u have a server setup in the States...

anyone trading the US stocks market from tokyo?

If you want to be a one pony trick. Haha. No one's making money in kospi fut/options anymore. That market is gone years ago. Too many competitors. You can only make money when someone scews up big time, like a few weeks on the open.

anyone trading the US stocks market from tokyo?

Because I trade asia markets in my day job. But I would much prefer to trade the US markets. Spreads are tighter, costs are lower, and there's a lot more opportunities to make money.

    Professional market maker (options) software?

a lot of guys are using ORC liquidators. The original ORC programming team actually split off into their own market making firm. So if you think you can use ORC trader to auto quote/MM, you are going to get ripped off. I once sat next to a market maker using ORC trader and he got picked off by...

    Pair Trading Platform

you can also try GL trade, they may have this feature. Is ORC that expensive now? I used to pay 2k a month for the ORC trader. I don't think they have a FIX solution for IB. BTW, you may still be able to soft dollar your execution platform.
