    Futures expiration and IB

Expiration 101. Lesson # 1 Net imbalances on Expiration are the direct result of the speculative imbalance. For example in your case there must have been a large short speculative imbalance in the contract. Here is a micro example for you: Let's say there are 10,000 contracts still...

6:1 margin for overnight stock positions at InteractiveBrokers

correct- customer account with less than $5 Million - are suppose to have some of their positions (spec) subject to day trading rules!!! IB got an exemption because of their real time margining - so it isn't $5 million it is only $100K for those who speculate Yet we got guys on this board...

6:1 margin for overnight stock positions at InteractiveBrokers

yes - it is arbritrary - however one should be grateful that it is only $100K. Think about it. If you set the amount at say $50K and allow the increased leverage (which can be much larger than what you descirbe) and the account falls below $25K and reverts to a Reg-T account - it becomes a...

6:1 margin for overnight stock positions at InteractiveBrokers

they got an exemption to a "portion" of the rule. re read my post. http://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/trading/marginRequirements/PortfolioMargin.php?ib_entity=llc read. Don't be afraid to do some of the work yourself.

6:1 margin for overnight stock positions at InteractiveBrokers

Very unlikely - as day trading rules still exist with the $25.000 threshold. Therefore - brokers need a decent cushion above $25K. IMO - customers should be grateful that it is $100K as IB got an exception to a portion of the Portfolio Margin rule. Perhaps it will be lowered in the future...

I have no calendars - but it was like the demo - as expected -$37.50 per option contract for my hedged positions.

    Bye-bye reg T

Just got approved this morning - saw my margin drop from $750K to $51K in one account. I was told that they were doing the changes slowly just to make sure everything goes well - so if your account hasn't been approved - it still could take several days.

    Bye-bye reg T

Why? Was Reg-T enough to protect traders/brokers in a stock like DNDN? The stock was up some 300% in pre market trading yesterday. So - "potentially" portfolio margin may increase margin requirements for some spec type positions when such volatility is known. - as the statement says "for...

    Bye-bye reg T

too funny.... I've been doing it for years - I track the entire options market but mainly only do conversions on the front month. In many cases (high priced stocks) I have not been able to compete as my ROE would be so low because of Reg-T - now a conversion in GOOG will cost me the same as...

    Bye-bye reg T

LOL - you're pretty funny: Here it is: In one of my accounts I mainly have Conversions/Reconversions. My current Reg-T margin requirement is over $350 K. With Portfolio Margin - I will be charged the minimum per option contract (about 600 options X 37.50) or $22,250 - no direction...

Perhaps there still are some minor advantages to having a JBO - but they are minor (ie. my margin requirement just fell about 94 %) Should be fun............

http://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/trading/marginRequirements/PortfolioMargin.php?ib_entity=llc as predicted: Here is a quote from the highlights: Interactive Brokers’ real-time margining system enables us to qualify for an exemption to the Day Trading Rules and so no Day...

    Bye-bye reg T

As I have said many times - according to my sources - the little guy (account > 100K) will receive the benefit of Portfolio Margin if his positions are hedged. It appears that retail brokers will be able to split your account into two different Margin accounts (PMA and Day Trader). They would...

    Bye-bye reg T

Here is what I have been told: 1) Pattern day traders will have the benefit of PM (Portfolio Margin). Positions that are hedged can always use portfolio margin. Unhedged positions will use normal day trading margin (for equity 4:1) on the day they are transacted. 2) On day two of your...
