i've traded 704 different stocks this year so far. watch about 1000. i just apply the same strategies across all of them but i know guys who trade just a few stocks and they do quite well too. whatever fits your personality the best

i deposited 2K at a prop shop over a year ago. make on average more than that daily so that's a decent living, no? so yes, you don't need a lot of money to start if you can go the prop route. if i decide to leave, i'll get 2K deposit back, and go somewhere else and put down something...
