Well, a little of all this. Not easy to describe exactly because, you know, it's... discretional.

Positions get stopped out all the time, but in this particular case the hit was bigger than usual. Expected from backtest, not an anomaly. Turning on/off strategies completely is at my discretion, not automated.

All positions stopped out, net loss -3384$ (-7.43%).

Already tested that out, it wouldn't work. A drawdown like yesterday's would be too small to intervene. It's a (short-term) trend following strategy, so any attempt to take profits too early would damage the returns. It requires ample margin for both profit target and stop loss. Of course the...

After some modifications I reactivated the previous shorter-term algo. Now it can open up to 2 positions simultaneously. So the system is running again off two distinct, long-only algos. Since reactivation the modified algo did 14 trades in a couple days, netting +266$ (0.6%). I'm not sure how...

    Backtesting is useless

And sometimes they go broke for believing that. But the remaining ones will still have based their decisions on the past. Overrating the past is easy, but along with our sensations is everything we've got. So it's a matter of taste. Which past information do you prefer?

    Backtesting is useless

Everything you think you know, you know because of the past. Unless you are an extremely intuitive person or a clairvoyant, of course.

Well, stock indexes are upward biased. Any sound trading strategy, I suppose, must have different parameter sets for long and short, if that's what you mean.

In fact, any stock index is mostly an average of liquid and valuable stocks. To me, stock indexes are easier to trade than single stocks. Congratulations if your P&L mostly comes from shorting stocks.

Yes, the bot did a good job in catching yesterday's top. And it did an even better job by getting out of the losing trade early. As I previously wrote, all my backtests show that the short side is more difficult to trade than the long side. I must be missing some info, because many...

Yes, when certain conditions repeat themselves, the algo adds new positions, up to five max.

Hardware situation: the support of the CPU heat sink broke, so I have to keep the trading bot computer box horizontal to prevent the heat sink from falling down. Waiting for eBay to deliver a new support.

The Nasdaq keeps rising, the bot keeps trading. This is the situation as of yesterday's close. Let's see what happens on Monday.

Monthly results so far, 7 complete months plus half november 2019. June very good, up more than 11%. If I was using e-minis, dollars would have been multiplied by 10. These results obviously differ from IB's, because I only take into account commissions and because I have long since given up...
