convexx's "hitting bids and lifting offers" ETF options

Great thread. I have some questions: 1) why did you hedge the 132 4000c/-3*4080/+2*4120 fly? I probably am missing something but I calculated only -0.03 delta that I think is only 3 NQ shares? 2) Isn't the 132 fly better than the broken wing 121 fly (4000c/-2*4080c/4120c) because it has a...

convexx's "hitting bids and lifting offers" ETF options

Thanks, I understand a skip strike put fly plus a credit bull put spread with defined risk. According to IB (I think), current delta for the 231 is short 0.226. Would you buy half say 110 SPY shares per fly? I think the market may have flipped and can take out 2025 SPX highs. I think IB mid...

convexx's "hitting bids and lifting offers" ETF options

I have been going back reading ET threads so I tried a synthetic straddle short 1 ES Dec. futures at 1976.75 and short 2 Oct. 17 ES 1965 options from 18.25. I was too early as usual. I entered the spread with about 20 short deltas (10 short deltas per SPX). Position has a small loss with ES...

convexx's "hitting bids and lifting offers" ETF options

I passed on the FB broken wing fly. I think this thread is great because once people learn basics of an area the best way to continue learning is "type this" (do this). I am too old to try an FB fly into a very possible 10% TSLA type landslide. I assume convexx still skies Squaw Valley KT22...

    convexx's stfu journal

I tried the same Sept. 12 SPX 1960/2000/2040 call fly. I held into expiration day thinking there was a resonable chance SPX would pin to 2000.0. I waited too long and closed the long 1960 calls at 26.80. My entry was also poorly timed because the spread cost me 21.20. Still profit was 25% of...

    convexx's stfu journal

Thanks for the very helpful journal. I am not really able to deal with mis-priced greeks, but nowhave good idea of the basic parameters given my predictiion on market environment. I tried a Sep 19/Sep 26 long SPX 1980 calendar this morning for 3.80. I will try for the 20% profit. I think...

Here is why HFTs hate IEX

I think the banks that profitted from HFT can make money by sometimes routing through delayed fair IEX and sometimes through their own dark pools. I think this explains GS large properietary trading profit last quarter. Idea is that the differential routing shows a wrong picture to people...

Reaction to Michael Lewis's book and "60 Minutes" interview

I think hedge and mutual funds do care about HFT because cutting transaction costs increases their pay. I am not sure if this is right place to post this. I think Katsuyama's IEX is working because the front running type HFT stategies can't just be turned on blindly. I think GS figured out...

What does Karen the Supertrader and her results say about volatility? Oversold?

I think Karen may be slightly suspicious. Tasty Trade posted this trade on Bob today. It does not say it is related to her, but her discussion was using this type of trade. Sell 1 Oct 18 SPY 210 call for 0.1 CR Sell 2 Oct 18 SPY 166 put for 0.16 CR As a SPX spread credit is 260 dollars per...

Last pitch fork worked - trying another

Adjusted Sep SPX pitch fork - do not want to be short SPX here I entered this pitch fork with hedge on July 23. I could have taken about $3200 profit after Aug. long puts expired OTM per spread, but instead I changed the position. on 23 July sell 1 SPX Sep 18 1910.0 call for 83.50 per spread...

    Exas...

I think EXAS is better for option selling because it has up and down spikes. For example, EXAS is down from 17.40 last week to close at close at 16 Friday. Idea is to sell puts on down spikes and sell covered calls on up spikes usually 4 to 6 week from expiration options. I had 50% of...

    Trying pitch fork

Thanks Drownpruf for the pitchfork idea. I have been trying to use the pitchfork idea for a while, but it was not been possible to enter it at about delta neutral: Here is what I am trying (10 SPY = 1 SPX): short 1x July 1895 call SPX for 61.40 short 3x July 1895 put SPX for 11.20

    Are bonds in a bubble?

I am not sure what a bubble is but something is going on with 30 yr. tbond futures not related to fundamentals. zbm14 rose from mid 135's to mid 137s in 3 days. The fed has announced reduced treasury buying so at least the long end of the curve can't keep rising. Only explanation I can...

    Rebates with IB

I think even forl low volume retail traders, IB does offer tiny rebates for adding liquidity. I rolled a CMG March 515P and 595C strangle up to 555P and 610C. Each leg had a rebate of between 9 and 16 cents. At least there were no commissions.

    Adjustment

I think the Tasty Trade method is pretty good in the current market environment. 1) Adjust winners not loses - for losers use time and roll forward 2) Lots of small trades 3) Take profits (close) winners on 50-75% of max possible profit 4) Look for high IV options or at least high IV...

Dude buys 150k Jan TWTR calls

I totally missed Friday's TWTR 10 point (14%) tank, but I did get back quite a lot of unrealized losses from selling wide TWTR strangles at lower prices. I think there may be another explanation for the Thursday large 85 and above call buyer. Namely, the trade was part of a giant Cottle...
