Maybe this is what is meant by IB eliminating the assignment fees and automating the process. Maybe someone else can give some input.

Agreed that usually the assginments occure in an overnight random assignment procedure, but I was also told that a midday assignment could also occur and require action that same very day!?

A broker is definitely not like marriage, you can and should have more than one; each has its own advantage.

Perhaps this type of thing is along the lines of what I was thinking, as his goal is to keep you out of the market at the wrong times, and that increases your confidence level during the other times. If a service would be on smaller terms as well is what I had in mind.

I don't think it is necessary to conclude that since you and I can't tell market direction that nobody can. I don't agree with your do-it-yourself attitude. If you find a service as good or better than you at market direction you are freed up to choose your stocks better.
