Colocating a server directly through genesis

+1 I have spent many, many hours on the phone with colocation remote-hands who have tried their best to be helpful. You need to know every detail about your hardware and their configuration. If you don't know which cables plugs from which port to which port based on your constantly...

Should I take the leap and quit my job to trade full-time?

I can't given an opinion to the OP whether they should or not, but I can contribute that whenever one is contemplating a major business/career change, one should expect a highly negative bias in the feedback of friends/coworkers. No one feels the pain of your situation. Everyone fears...

Unemployment applications by state, at a glance

Considering that the Labor Department is good about making seasonal adjustments and considering that the labor force is growing, a +/- 2000 jobs/state, I would think, is well within the margin of error. With Christmas seasonal jobs expiring and the prospects of another year of...

Wishing for the End of Times

Missed one of my own: That said. Small children have a poor sense of measurement, by nature are greedy, and have a strong reaction to unfairness. Children will fight for advantage, and be quite vicious when at a disadvantage. I think that this factors in somehow. Another relevant...

The Fuhrer's first speech could have been about 2010 USA

The juxtaposition in this thread, my fault, is getting to be a problem. For those who wish to discuss the psychological underpinnings rather than the OP, I have created a separate thread. http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=212843

Wishing for the End of Times

The juxtoposition of those wishing to discuss the coming "End of Times" with people discussing the psychological underpinning of the discussion was getting a bit much (my fault.) So I am starting this thread. My apologies as I have undoubtedly missed some relevant posts.

The Fuhrer's first speech could have been about 2010 USA

Being among the chosen, is not really a good fit. Perhaps "among the right" or "among the good." I think this connects to our basic revulsion at unfairness. God/Father will finally bring much delayed, just punishment. Then it shall be proven that we were right (in our obedience.)

    This Trader Just Committed Suicide

I have heard that as well, as from doctors I know. I can quite understand that someone works to get an advanced degree just to find that they are jeweler working in cramped conditions with high customer exposure to needy/whiny children. We can all be glad we aren't dentists.

    Win 7... Win XP Mode?

Can't speak to the particular program. I don't have a floppy drive to verify with, but XP mode works with your W 7 drives as network share emulations. If you want to install from a floppy, I bet that it will work. If the program needs to run from the floppy (security key or something,) then...

The Fuhrer's first speech could have been about 2010 USA

+1 Your phrase "secretly wish to occur" is quite true, but not something I fully comprehend.

Why do people believe day trading will get them rich quick?

Though I agree with most of what has been said, I must disagree with the claim that participating in the Education Business is a waste of time. My point is not whether this is true or false, but rather that the world is a, thankfully, multi-faceted place. Multi-faceted beyond human...

    Win 7... Win XP Mode?

I need the XP-Mode virtual machine in Windows 7; because, I have some old code in Borland C++ Builder 6. The compiler won't work correctly under Vista or Windows 7, but work fine in the XP virtual machine.

Why do people believe day trading will get them rich quick?

Another reason why "Why do people believe day trading will get them rich quick?" is that brokers want to hype day trading. A discretionary trader may spent an hour a day on the phone agonizing over a trade that takes them a month to make and three months to cut his loss. Although I...

Should I take the leap and quit my job to trade full-time?

If Laissez Faire's trading method could be automated, he could get some sleep, continue to get pay and BENEFITS (good luck on getting health insurance once you get sick), build a stake worth having a full-time employee, and not be stuck in a prop-trading role, which I take it, many dislike.

Stat Question: L-Moments vs Normal Moments

Thank you for the pointer, but Extreme Value Theory isn't a good fit in this case. I have bimodal data with noise. At the moment, I am looking for a measure of how much time is spent in each mode. Sometimes there are spikes and sometimes not. If I could assume that there would be spikes, I...

Programmer monthly rate (Java multithreading IB Platform)

As a programmer who has worked in a variety of situations within finance/trading, I must agree that the key question in efficacy of outsourcing/interning vs professional development is your ability to be the project manager and architect. Consider a task of implementing the back-end for an...

    Replacing WealthLab

Is the basic premise of this thread really true? I know that Wealth-Lab entered into an agreement with Fidelity. I still see a purchase button on their website http://www.wealth-lab.com/. I don't see any big banner saying that they are out of business. Their forum has posts today. Long...

    Replacing WealthLab

Many people are using Ninja Trader for custom indicators. It uses C# for its scripting. It can be free if your Broker is willing to provide it. Mine does. You can try it out on End-Of-Day data for free.
