Options mm's pull their algo's when trading gets volatile so fills can be tough to come by.

I nailed the bottom in oil in 2016 using DWTI otm puts for about $85k overnight. I was a few days early to the trade and added to the position each day. The only puts that really paid were the final buy on the close on the last day (around 15x return if I remember), but they more than made up...

Too young for options imo, but you could start teaching her about stocks in some fun way. If she doesn't have an interest in stocks then you won't have success teaching her options. An 8yo could maybe start to understand options in a basic way.

Your mistake is trying to calculate how much you can make, instead of how little you can lose. You are still in the daydreamer phase of how easy trading seems. Once you break even for a few months come back and ask again.
