    Marxian-Socialism, rising?

Curiously, both libertarians and fascists agree that socialism is bad for the common man. Meanwhile fascists and communists are convinced that libertarianism is bad for the common man. "Why can't we be friends?"

    Financial Damage of Colorado Killer

The NRA cares as much about the "rights" of regular schmoes as Hoffa's Teamsters cared about the pensions of truck drivers. It is nothing more than a self-serving, hypocritical barrel of special interest group lobbying dung more interested in its own survival than anything else.

    Financial Damage of Colorado Killer

There are no "inherent" rights. As evidenced by the American Experience, which for all the high falutin' words ran legalized slavery, and then de facto slavery, for the better part of 200 years.

How many hard-coded parameters in the Holy Grail?

IMO that's putting things backwards. The selection of the algo - which buries more assumptions than does adding any number of parameters - is the higgs boson of the algo. That's backwards, too. The more "hard coded" parameters there are, the easier it is to validate any given piece of...

    Financial Damage of Colorado Killer

trade2live makes an interesting point - if that rifle of his had been full auto, he would most likely have killed fewer people, as those weapons are harder to control and go through ammunition much faster than semi-autos. Where I would differ is that modern western society is getting...

    Financial Damage of Colorado Killer

That would have been a catastrophe. Anyway, it turns out at least one carry permit was in the "audience" for this spectacle. They did the right thing - kept their head down and got the hell out of the line of fire.

    Financial Damage of Colorado Killer

Serbia, Yemen, Cyprus, Iraq and Saudia Arabia are all top 7 in per capita gun ownership. Don't think too many people would classify them as "polite" societies.

    Financial Damage of Colorado Killer

People have short memories. And construction quality sucks, building won't last anyway. Wouldn't worry about it, to be honest.

How much trial and error is involved in fitting to a curve?

What do you mean by "inaccurate"? With an R2 that high, it is extremely accurate, by defnition. Are you using "accurate" and "I trust it" as synonyms?

Introducing The BAT System: Bot Algo Trading Made Easy.

It comes from the "test against 30 days of tick data in seconds" statements inferred earlier. From your later description it sounds like the testing is actually again massaged data, not raw tick data, which would knock that number down to more manageable proportions. Cheers!

Wasendorf's suicide note to his son

It's easy to hate. Reality is, most of us, most of the time, are only as honest as our circumstances allow temptation to be held at arms' length.

For sure, didn't mean to imply otherwise. I just figure if you can't handle the I/O, then there's no way you can handle handling the I/O, KWIM. :)

Introducing The BAT System: Bot Algo Trading Made Easy.

    1M/second -> 1 us per tick 5M/second -> 200 ns per tick If you're pulling off a network -> 5M * 100 bytes/message * 10 -> 5Gbps -> basically, you need a 10GbE fire hose. If you're pulling off local storage you're looking at 500MB/s bandwidth. That's...substantial. I have something cooking...

I Am Betting On Oil Price to Collapse,

I consider that good news. We're not going to starve with oil at those prices, and there is clearly abundant supply at those prices and above.
