    Reverse Psychology/Trading

A lot of losers are losers because of position sizing and money managment. You could take the opposite end of their positions and still be a loser for that same reason. Try using market sediment and take the opposite position when it reaches extremes.

    zero sum game?????????????

The problem between those who are in disagreement about rather futures and options are a zero sum game is a definition problem. Depending upon what you define as the 'game' and who the players are, it changes rather it is zero sum or not. If you define the game as strictly the buying and...

Oh boy.. more gloom and doomers

It will be interesting to see what happens in March. I know will be long the euro and short the dollar if the bourse opens up. Anyone who believes this nonsense care to share the reasons why they believe this? Because the French wrote it, is not an acceptable answer.

    zero sum game?????????????

Wow, I can't believe it took 16 pages of this BS before someone was smart enough to figure out that stocks pay dividends. It amazes me how so many so called traders have no clue how the stock market works at all. I guess that makes it easier for me to make money :) It is not a zero sums...

The reality - from Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Reagan administration

First, all the time and money you have to spend for an education. Then once you have it, all the time and energy spent kissing up to people who have no idea what an engineer abilities really are while you are trying to find a job before you realize its not worth doing this for the rest of your...

The reality - from Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Reagan administration

But this one does: "From 2000 to 2003 engineering employment fell 8.7 percent". The reason for the low unemployment is because engineers are smart and will find something else they can do like trade or real estate.

The reality - from Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Reagan administration

I think we will see a increase in wages as baby boomers retire. Decreasing supply of labors means higher wages which leads to higher prices and inflation. Retired baby boomers will feel the crunch and have less of a retirement than they thought they would. Anyone else think this will happen?

The reality - from Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Reagan administration

Not really, it is focused on the future and predicts there will be a shortage of skilled labor and engineering in the future. There certainly isn't right now.

    Backtesting Automated Results

I use Matlab to backtest. Most people backtest their systems and then if they work they automate them, the reverse of what you are doing. You could test it in real time with a paper trading account from IB.

Bush: U.S. on Verge of Energy Breakthrough

Couldn't agree more, there have been dozens of energy 'breakthroughs' that have been suppressed that would make energy cost next to nothing. The government is well aware of them, most of them have patents. Here is one example of an over-unity efficiency system. This physicist from Howard...

IB ActiveX API and Extended Order Attributes

Does anyone here use ActiveX to connect to IBs API? I can't figure out how to use the extended order attributes. I am using Matlab to call the ActiveX events and methods. The code I use to place an order is: tws.placeOrder(id, action, quantity, symbol, secType, expiry, strike, right...

Why not share your winning strategy?

You don't think Microsoft has paid back more dividends than money it raised in its IPO? Anyone who thinks the stock market is a zero sums game shouldn't be trading. In 2004 Microsoft paid a $32.6 billion one-time dividend, the S&P 500 paid a total of $213.6 billion in dividends during 2004.

Why not share your winning strategy?

I don't agree that it is a zero sums game. Stocks certainly aren't because corporations make a profit and then pay them out in dividends. Commodities and currencies are closer to a zero sums game but you have hedgers who are most likely net losers using them as issuance.
