Can't help you with the Eyefinity 24, but the 12? I expect to be putting a new system together in the next few weeks. I'll let you know when I get the Eyefinity 6: the Eyefinity 12 should be out the next week...

Sandybridge NOT = On-board Graphics Well, the integrated on-die graphics aren't a big deal compared to the "enthusiast" graphic cards, but they're not the lack-luster on-board graphics we've all encountered and cringe when asked to fix for friends and family. Provided the integrated/MB has...

i7-900s vs Xeon processors - identical?

Sorry, I confused this thread with another where someone is building a computer for both trading and photography and ... But, unless building a dedicated trading machine, we have to balance needs.

Remember, the graphics card will only drive four monitors with passive adapters. Monitors five and six have to be Display Port or you'll need Active display port adapters to drive them.

Nope. With almost all integrate video you'd be absolutely correct. But with Sandybridge it's a whole new architecture. The GPU is integrated within the CPU case, possibly even on die. I'm told the CPU and GPU communicate at cache speed, so any handshaking between CPU, cache and GPU happens much...

i7-900s vs Xeon processors - identical?

Yes, but the point is that it appears that the 1155 upgrade path will be limited. Also, we don't know what other PCI-E cards he plans to use. I believe he'll also use the machine for still photography - PCI-E SSD? If any serious work with video or RAW video, unless he's willing to let the...

Anyone has more than two computers?

With a wall of six 28" LCDs, after they've been on a while and the room's heated up, the heat from mine is uncomfortable at a foot. Makes a good space heater on chilly nights. Not wanting the security issue of having a window open, I had to run the a/c into early December, and this is in Canada.

If you intend to go with Eyefinity 6 (double wide) PCI-E card and a PCI-E SSD, you'll have to check out the available PCI-E lanes for your MB. Particularly if it's a Sandybridge. Make sure everything PCI-E you plan on having will run at the speed (number of lanes) they need or you expect it to...

Except, if you'll only be driving the number of monitors the Sandybridge integrated allows you (one, two?), it's integrated at a much higher speed than the old "on-MB" implementations of budget GPUs. It's not a $20 GPU equivalent, but $200, $300. Won't work for me, but for some...

i7-900s vs Xeon processors - identical?

IMPORTANT UPDATE Apparently there's more to this. We don't know how many more faster Sandybridge CPUs will be released for the 1155 socket. I'm told the more powerful Sandybridge CPUs will require a different socket, first one, and then another, so they won't work on a 1155 motherboard...

Depending on how many monitors you want to drive. I'm told (and unconfirmed) that to use another graphics card that the integrated one will have to be turned off. I'm also told that the main reason the 2600K benchmarks so good is due to the integrated graphics, and that the benchmark drops...

Yup. Exactly it. The Sapphire. The Diamond has reports of hardware/build issues, and company support reported as problematic. I didn't check other brands, due to the good reports about the Sapphire and price. Check to see what mini-DP adaptors it comes with vs. which you need. Also means...

Paid $200 for a passively cooled 5750 to test. Was going to use it to drive three monitors and get a second one for the other three if it worked well. Driving two monitors (one DVI, one HDMI) it couldn't always keep up with full 1080 video on one. When back to the Nvidia and got a $54 GT430 to...

True, but many of today's video cards have variable speed fans. If the GPU has very little load (i.e. trading) the fan will run slower and be very very quiet. I can't hear my friend's 5870 running four monitors when using photoshop on it. When he's running folding on the CPU and GPU, the fan...

Great to have that info you provided. I knew of it, but not the specifics. However, it still stands that some people are having problems with the CCFL backlighting but do not have problems with LED backlighting. This has nothing to do with the other properties. We don't know the frequency of...

DITTO on NVidia over ATI to simplify my system, I'm going for Eyefinity 6 to drive all six monitors from one video card, but I hate having to switch to an ATI driver Saw someone mention cards with VGA & DVI output. Stay clear of using VGA, it's acceptable with the right monitor/card, but...

i7-900s vs Xeon processors - identical?

Don't know for a 920, except you want the D0 stepping one and check for reports on a good bin number. All W3520 are high binned. The W3520 at 9700 is the average for my friend's test. High end MB, super stable voltages, low voltage low latency memory tweaked settings (7-7-8-7-22). That's one...
