1 and 2 minute no way. 5-minute yes.

    Candlesticks?

I'm not a big fan of fibos either. In fact there are so many which one do you use? 38-50-63 are the most popular but that leaves too many pivot points. Good old support and resitance points seem to work as well as anything. If a stock breaks a previous support low I'm gone. The hell with the...

    Candlesticks?

Candle patterns are absolutely useful. Morning/evening stars and engulfing are the 2 most-reliable patterns I see. The piercing, belthold and harami much less so.

    Candlesticks?

The only real problem with a 5-minute chart of course is in fast-moving markets. One candle can span 50,60 cents or more. Then where do you place your stops? I usually place my inital stop just below the 3rd candle's low, but not if it's a 50-cent risk. I suppose you could use an arbitarty fibo...

    Candlesticks?

Simple. On a 5-minute chart a 5sma seems to hold the price quite well on trends. Since I've been using it I find I stay in trades longer. I used to cut myself off much too quick. Now on those days like Wednesday when QLGC for example runs up 1.35 I don't exit until the 5sma is breached. I was...

    Candlesticks?

The minimum sma I find useful is a 5 period. Anything less and as aphex says you're just connecting the dots. A 5-day ma on a daily or a 5-period on a 5-minute (which makes it a 25-minute quasi ma) is useful to confirm trends.

    Candlesticks?

Seriously, I prefer the 5-minute candles. I figure if a trend develops and can be sustained by (3) 5-minute bars it usually holds for a while. Filters out all the noise of the market. Also if a perceived trend reversal is really a false move it often dies out before that 3rd candle is printed...

That's why tick charts and Level II were invented :D

    Candlesticks?

Thanks, davez. I also wish TC2000 would upgrade their charting - those are the hardest-to-read candle charts anywhere. At least be able to set the grid colors differently, anything. The Wordens seem to be putting all their efforts into TCNet and abandoning TC2000 :(

    Trader777 Exposed

That's exactly what goes on. We've got some schizos who start threads and respond to themselves in agreement, then when other people with an opposing viewpoint post messages the schizos go to town. If you read enough of these threads they're easy to spot. Baron: How about a token charge...

    Pres. Carter on Iraq

Reagan was the best president this country has had in quite some time. The White House was dignified and respected, our military might was feared by our enemies. We were a proud country and Reaganomics was the real start of economic prosperity. President and Mrs. Reagan were a model First...

HGMCY has been a great little stock this year, long and short. That's all I know about gold (and care) as a trader :D

Last Septermber 11th, What Could You Have Done?

Why does every Goddamn thread on this board start out on topic then have to deteriorate into an infantfest. This is a serious topic let's keep it that way.

Last Septermber 11th, What Could You Have Done?

Yes of course, but if anyone said that less than 3000 people would ultimately be killed in the 2 largest office towers in the eastern US at 9am on a business day, I'd say we were lucky indeed.

Actually it's better than that. At the time that was written the death toll at the WTC was 5 thousand. Now I think it's just below 3000.

    swing trade

Relies too much on fundamentals for my taste. I'm a strict technician; charts don't lie, fundamentals (as they're presented) do. Pro forma, EDITDA, earnings less special charges, special charges less one-time expenses . . . you get the picture. OHLC on a chart is where the rubber meets...

Actually she looks better this week after her vacation. She looked like hell back in early August. I guess shorting stocks at Dow 7600 will do that to you :D

Last Septermber 11th, What Could You Have Done?

By now everyone has been hearing the death toll rise and reports of the destruction from the terrorist attacks on the US. These were deplorable acts that we will never forget. But now is a time to look at the other side of the numbers coming out of New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. The sad...
