How much will be my maximal loss on a $2600 IB futures account

Hi C, Few things: First, the mini dow contracts are quite illiquid, especially now. You maybe should get some data and factor that into your system. Second, you mention that you haven't lost more than $125 on a trade. What was your maximum loss, though, during a single day? You...

    NQ emini very slow lately??

Savage, What sort of "strategy" do you use? Fly by the seat of your pants? Fixed stop and profit target? Trailing stop and no target? etc..? thx..

Arbitrage? Who here has been talking about arbitrage? I haven't seen any... just "daytrading".

    IB FX Dealing Network

CFD = Contract For Difference You find yourself a UK broker. And instead of buying a given stock XYZ, you instead enter into a contract with the broker to exchange the cash flows that would result if you HAD bought the stock. The broker then hedges this transaction by going into the...

    IB FX Dealing Network

Stamp tax 1.5% in the U.K. is standard, unless you are a dealer. Go ahead and "invest" there if you like, but avoid "trading". If you want to trade there seriously, then you'll have to trade CFDs.

    IB FX Dealing Network

That's because 40 pips IS huge. IB's FX dealing certainly isn't the best deal around. However, I think they've changed the way the run it. (Correct me if I'm wrong --) IB used to maintain a wide (40 or 50 bps) quote and only allowed you trade on the bid/offer -- i.e., you couldn't enter a...

    Anybody making any real $$$???

Agreed Don. Leavings lots of shares naked long or short for days at a time is just too risky, and it's a risk that I think most people underestimate. They sit and think, "well, the stock normally trades between $14 and $17 per share, and I'm long at $14.50, so I'll probably be fine", but...

    QQQ heading for 9-11 levels?

I'm sorry D'ya. I really do feel your pain. We've all been there. But you really just need to cut your loss and move on. Don't get emotionally attached to your positions.

    QQQ heading for 9-11 levels?

Agreeing with BullFighter Mike ... but who cares where the pain threshold is? If you think we're in a downtrend, sell your long and get short awhile.

    QQQ heading for 9-11 levels?

So that was two mistakes then. First was in your entry -- but you discovered it quickly. The second was in not exiting when you realized it was a mistake. When you realized you made a mistake on buying (I'm assuming that's what you mean by "loading up the truck".), you should have gotton out...

You also forget that IB has a not insignificant number of institutional accounts.

Ahhh - those notes... nevermind. Anyway, lack of interest in notes of any sort the last few months is not at all surprising.

    Direct Access Shakeout

What do you mean by, "the offering of the notes and lack of interest is troubling." What offering? What notes? Lack of interest in what? THanks..

    NYSE specialist rules...

NYSE specialists do all what freehouse says. For that, I really think the NYSE is a better marketplace than Nasdaq with its terrible "dealer" model. Give my the LSE or Globex anytime.
