Is technical analysis just a self-fulfilling prophecy?

I disagree. Tech Analysis has been around for a while and it has worked fairly well for a while. Know I don't think that technical analysis got it's start from some guy trying to convince everybody that it works. Go back to the dow theory and the use of pivot points by Livermore and Gann...

Article says Cash Account can be qualifed as daytrader

"Can someone explain to me why the second buy is allowed in this example? I mean, either you have the cash or you don't. If you have the cash, then you should be allowed to buy. If you don't, you shouldn't." The problem is the three day settlement. If everything settled imediately then you...

Article says Cash Account can be qualifed as daytrader

I agree that the link does not say you cannot daytrade. However, because of the three day settlement it essentially has the same effect. I think the rule is flawed as well. I work for a broker and I know how the rule is enforced. If you have cash in your account you can use it to buy...

Article says Cash Account can be qualifed as daytrader

I am a broker and our firm already enforces "daytrader type" rules in cash accounts. Basially a cash account is only allowed to use the cash they have at the opening to buy, sell, and then buy again. This means if I have $2000 I can buy $2000 worth of stock then sell it later in the day, and...

The bottom line on wall street

I think you just lost a lot of money, and now you instead of claiming responsibility and possibly learning from your mistakes you are coming up with excuses that will make your ego feel better. You will certainly lose more money and be another victim. Not only in the markets but in life as well.

    Freeriding

This has become a big probelm at my firm as well. I think it is totally bogus, considering the fact that they never persued this issue earlier. In my opinion the NASD, NYSE, and SEC are on a witch hunt for small daytraders who they blame for the dramatic fall in the Nasdaq. Like they say...

    Is Gold a short?

Does anyone else think that Gold or gold related stocks would make a good short these days. It looks to me that the price is starting to trend down and it has recently had a run up. Just wondering what anybody else's opinion was on this matter.

Grain Market & The Stock Market

Is there a stock that one could buy that would take part in a rally within the grain markets? What industry would be the best play in this situation?

    NYSE Regulations

Does anyone know where I can get all of the NYSE regulations. Namely regulation having to do with "freerides". I was not able to find anything on NYSE.com.

S&P futures, fair value, & program trading

rs7- you are saying that the formula for PREM does not include fair value in its calculation. If this is true than why do they even give the fair value number on programtrading.com. Why not just tell you to watch the diffence between the cash and futures market? And don't worry about what...

S&P futures, fair value, & program trading

I am trying to get used to watching the S&P futures and its premium/discount to fair value. I think I understand the importance of this with respect to program trading and day trading. However, in watching the premium/discount to fair value I am seeing that it is negative most of the day and...
